<b>CHAPTER
THIRTEEN: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
has another weird ass dream.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
actually had to read bits of it a few times to finally understand
what was going on.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
dreams of the history of the KAtuu and when their world ends. Men
from the third planet (earth) came in their ship and started to build
something. They guarded it at all times.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We
also learn a bit about the KAtuu.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ That's
what brought on the victim's hunger. The parasite had to be fed, or
else it would feed on its host. It hungered for the living iron in
the dying blood – to bring about the polarity, the magnetism, that
led to union with the mind of the world.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(That
is sooo wierd that the KAtuu's world is like a thinking being or
something!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So
it seems like all KAtuu have a connection with their planet and can
remember all that has happened.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We
also learn that once a human is fully changed into a KAtuu they can
easily turn others with just their blood and their change would
happen much quicker then if they just drank the water.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
earth people worked quickly and had to defend what they were building
because the world sent all its 'army' to attack them. It didn't work
however, the men killed all of them with red and green energy beams.
Unfortunately one man stepped out to far and was infected by the
planet. His peers killed him with no hesitation but not before the
world saw what the earth men were doing. They were building a bomb to
destroy the planet. The humans that had previously gone back to
earth, and who were infected, had almost caused the earths population
of humans to be wiped out.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay
I STILL don't get this? Earth obviously had the ability to fly in
space and to land on other planets. Even though the human population
was almost wiped out, wouldn't the earth men currently on the fifth
planet and who go back to earth once the bomb is done still know how
to go into space? So why did that technology disappear and then
reappear later on? The lakes were formed by planet pieces after it
was blown up and landed on the earth 100,000 years ago! I don't get
it!!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
world couldn't do anything to stop the men who finished the bomb and
left. The world blew up. A few pieces crashed to earth and survived.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
'They
floated for eons with consciousness but no comprehension. They knew
only their hunger, which they could no longer satisfy, and their
hatred of the men who had destroyed their home. Above all else, the
vowed that if there was a chance, they would take vengeance upon the
people of the third planet.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
wakes up to find that her and Kevin are locked in the basement. She
had a terrible headache that made it hard for her to think, she
needed to eat soon.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Told
you Angela that you should have ate something earlier!!) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Poor
Kevin has no idea what is going on. She tries to tell him but really
doesn't have time to go into the whole thing.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ We
are being held captive by thirty vampires from outer space.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
tells her she needs to give him more then that but she winches and he
tries to comfort her. She tells him to back away because she is VERY
aware of him and the blood flowing through him.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OMG
:( I don't want to happen what I think is going to happen :( )</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Her
bottles of gas are still down there but there is no fuse. She knows
that there is no escape and the only way to stop them is to blow them
up, with her and Kevin in there. She feels really bad that Kevin will
have to die but she doesn't want to take the chance that one would
get away. He thinks she is crazy and comments that she is just as bad
as Mary. She tells him with sadness that Mary is dead. He is shocked
and asks her how. She said they did it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
does her weird mesmerizing thingo and tells him to not interfere with
her. Since she has no matches or any other way to light a flame she
breaks some wood off the wall and jabs one of the bottles so that gas
leaks onto the floor, then settles down to hopefully make a spark by
rubbing two pieces of wood together. She grows emotional and says she
can't do it. She is 18 and doesn't want to die. Poor Kevin still
has no idea what the hell is going on and he is scared because I
assume he also doesn't want to die either. He once again tries to
comfort her and she is intoxicated by his smell. She rubs his wound
on his head and when he is not looking licks her finger. She then
digs deeper until he calls out in pain. She says sorry and realllly
wants to lick her hand again but doesn't want to do it when he is
looking at her.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
kisses him a few times and when his eyes are closed she snaps his
neck.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OMG
that is soooo sad and sooo wrong :( This book is freaking
depressing! )</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
While
she is feeding her mind leaves her and she is glad.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER
FOURTEEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Lieutenant
Nguyen was stalling but he knew that he needed to talk to Angela
about what Mary told her. But she told him to stay away. He stops at
the cemetery where Todd and Kathy were buried. He goes and visits
there grave and sits down to think.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(oh
god at 11:30 at night! That would be the last place I would be.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
believes that Angela believes what Mary told her and that she is
possibly taking over where Mary left off. He is pretty close to
believing it himself, but he doesn't want to face it just yet. He hears
the wind moan but when it doesn't stop when the wind stops he is
horrified to realize that he is hearing it from BELOW him! And its
coming from Todd's grave. He rushes away until he can't hear it
anymore then thinks that maybe it was his imagination until he gets
close again. He freaks out and yells stop and the moan stops. Todd
had heard him. He FREAKS and rushes to his car. He wants to talk to
Angela no matter what and is resolved to kill her if he has to.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Hey
wait a second, why did Jim and the others go to so much trouble to
get the blood from the mortician but never bothered to go dig up Todd
who is clearly still alive!? He was only shot in the stomach. Sure
that would have killed the host body but KAtuu can only be killed by
destroying their head. Why didn't they go get him? Or destroy him or
something. I mean maybe he can't get around but they went to so much
trouble to hide the blood or whatever they did with it, that they
should have stopped Todd from alerting people to the fact that he is
moaning in the ground. Just saying, Jim and his monsters are lazy!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER
FIFTEEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
crazy ass unemotional monsters opened the door after she was done
with Kevin.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Serious
sad face :( What did Kevin ever do to deserve this!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
feeding had changed her, she forgot who she was but was aware that
she was occupying a human body named Angela.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay
that is really messed up! Is Angela still in there somewhere I
wonder? Like can she see what is going on but the KAtuu is
controlling her? Okay that is way way waaaay too creepy to think
about! I hope for her sake she is not aware! Also Jim is an ass! That
was really a butt ass move to choose Kevin for her to drink? I don't
know what Jim could possibly gain from having her do that? Does he
think that will make her decide not to resist the change? ) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jim
says they are going to have a meeting but since she was covered in
blood he wanted her to clean up.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm
surprised he or any of them care what she looks like. The seem to be
at this point unemotional blood sucking zombies who only think of how
they will get more blood. Unless the blood would distract them or
something.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So
she makes her way to Angela's bedroom to do so.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
When
she gets out of the shower she sees the KAtuu charm and decides to
put it on even though she is not sure why.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(ooooh
maybe Angela is still in there somewhere fighting!) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Doing
so she is able to see red energy?
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(
I have no freaking clue what THAT means? That is sooo sooo wierd? )</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
That
connected all of them to the pieces of world that were left flying in
space. Except there was another part of her that wanted to remember.
Angela was fighting to regain control of herself.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Yeah!
I knew it!!) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
As
her body remembered the redness changed colour then disappeared and
she was herself again. I guess essentially severing the connection to
the world?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
is horrified at what the KAtuu made her do to Kevin but she pushes it
aside because she doesn't have time to think about it. She ran to
her closet where she had stowed the smaller bottles of gasoline she
had filled earlier. She looks around for a way to light it when Jim
comes to tell her to come to the meeting.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Of
course he does! They must be getting hungry or something!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
notices her necklace and starts to question her about it because he
sees that it looks like KAtuu. She edges towards the closet and says
that an Indian gave it to her just now. He is confused and when she
says he is in the closet he goes and investigates. That gives her
enough time to grab a knife she had in her desk and stab him in the
neck. He calls for help.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Wow
What! his blood has a green tinge to it!? Why does their blood turn
green?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She
lashed out with her foot, with every bit of her new found strength,
and caught him directly in the balls.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(ouch!
And also HAHAHA that what you get Jim for being a jerk!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
slams her door shut and locks it and hopes that it will give her
enough time to do what she has to do before the others break in. She
grabs one of the bottles from the closet and jumps on it so gas flies
everywhere.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“You
waited a hundred thousand years for revenge,” she said. “you
wasted your time. You're goners. You're just a bunch of dead heads
from a dead world.” She paused and smiled wickedly. “ I hope you
feel pain when you die.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
lights the gas on fire and runs for the balcony The first bomb goes
off flinging her into the lake. Then the one in the basement blew and
the oil tank beside the house. It was pretty positive to say that
everyone in there died.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(What
about the dog? Plastic never jumped off the deck and she didn't throw him in the water did she? Or did I miss something. I guess
Plastic also was blown off the balcony? I hope so the poor dog!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Lt
Nguyen was pretty close to the house when it blew. He didn't call
it in right away because he knew that Angela must have wanted this to
happen. He thought he saw something fly into the water but when he
looked harder he thought he must have been mistaken.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>EPILOGUE:
THREE MONTHS LATER</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
LT
Nguyen goes back to visit what is left of the house although he stays
far away from it. He was present when they took out what was left of
the bodies. They managed to identify them by dental records. He was
sad to find that Kevin had been in the basement. They could find no
trace of Angela however and he even made them search the lake. He had
adopted Angela's grandfathers dog who he found along the lake after
the explosion.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
was among many that were leaving Point. He himself was moving to
California. About 6 weeks after the explosion a man, Philip Frazier,
had the propane tanker he was driving stolen. He didn't see who
attacked him, or what, but knew that it had come from the roof. The
stolen truck resurfaced when it was used to trigger the oil wells to
explode which in turn caused oil to leak into the lake for a few days
before they could stop it. It would have been way to expensive to
clean it so instead in the spring they were going to drain it and
fill it in. Nguyen knew that before he left he had to kill whatever
was in Todd's grave, which he was not looking forward to.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Really
I don't freaking blame him!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
and the dog go into the woods to look for animal carcasses. He had
found a number of them in the weeks since the house went up. It
didn't take him long to find one. The dog all of a sudden became
terrified which in turn freaked Nguyen out. They left quickly.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Up
in the tree starting down at the dog and Nguyen was essentially what
had become of Angela. She had completely transformed into KAtuu
except that she was different. For a moment she was tempted to attack
Nguyen but then touched her necklace that she still wore. She had no
memory of why she was wearing it or where it came from nor did she
remember what KAtuu were or where she came from. She for some reason
had a memory that eating humans was bad so she decided that she
wouldn't ever.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
THE
END</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm
so terribly sad that Angela wasn't able to revert back to human
although I guess I realized that wasn't going to be a possibility
since it was Jim's blood that turned her. The ending here when Nguyen
was in the woods and she was in the tree also sparked a memory of
this book from my youth. Anyways it was sort of nice to not remember
exactly what happened and it was still good this time as an adult as
I probably though it was when I was younger.)</i></div>

<b>CHAPTER NINE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
goes to visit Professor Alan Spark. He tells her that he was very
against the high school being built next to the water and having its
drinking water come from there, but they didn't listen to him. He
was concerned basically with the quality of the water since it has
been subjected to a magnetic field all the time. In his experiments
he saw that plants that were watered with that water either died or
did not do to well. He also points out that Point Lake is different
from other lakes in the area because there is nothing in it, no fish,
plant life, worms, except...</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“There
is also a high concentration of an unidentified fossilized
microorganism in and around the lake..”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm
guessing that this must be the KAtuu)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Nobody
on the board were worried about a fossilized microorganism because it
was dead and wouldn't pose a threat to anyone consuming the water. He
says that the DNA structure is not in any of the books if it even has
one. They still didn't listen. He also found that same organism at
another meteor site in Chile called lake Curro. This site was formed
around the same time as Point lake. He says that the people that
used to live there called it 'Lake Sentia'. Those people also had a
myth about the same type of creatures as the Katuu called Kalair. The
Ropans believed that the Kalair came from the fifth planet.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“More
humans would travel from the third planet to the fifth, and more of
her kind would take birth.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
figures that there used to be a planet between Mars and Jupiter “the
fifth planet” which is the location of the asteroid belt. He
figures that the fifth planet blew up and what fell on earth to make
those two lakes are the pieces of it. In his research it was found
that both the Mantons and Ropans got sick from drinking the water.
That lake is also shunned even to this day.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Interesting
tidbit that the reason why both the football players and the
cheerleaders were the only ones to get sick was that they drank more
of the water then everyone else. They were practicing a lot and it
was really freaking hot that year. So I guess that clears up my
question as too why only those two groups and nobody else.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
describes to him quickly what is going on.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">

had a dream last night that I was an astronaut who came back to earth

by men with lazer guns. Sounds pretty corny huh?”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Not
corny but really freaking insane!!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela,
eating food again, hears on the radio that Mary is out on bail and
goes to find her. She was hoping they could work together although
she figured that Mary might kill her at the end. She gets to the
cabin that Mary's family owns only to find Officer Martin dead in the
door way with a shotgun wound to his chest. She went in farther to
find Mary had “hung” herself. Angela didn't buy that it was a
murder suicide.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Neither
to I for that matter.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
KAtuu had a lot to lose if Mary told anyone and they believed her.
She gets her friend down then has to resist drinking what is left of
her blood.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(The
ones that staged it obviously got hungry, I'm surprised they were
able to stop themselves from draining both bodies completely.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
has a hard time and does suck blood off her finger. Then Lt Nguyen
walks in and sees her.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Poor
guy, that would freak the shit out of me!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
tells him that it was Jim that did this but she has no proof. She
gets up and looks at him and realizes that she can make some sort of
impression on his brain, and he probably would believe whatever she
said. She told him to let her go and let her do what she needed to.
She told him that she hopes that he never understands what is going
on or that he ever has to understand. She leaves and he doesn't
stop her.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
goes home and has an uncontrollable hunger and grabs the first warm
blooded thing she sees her grandfathers dog Plastic. But before she
can drink his blood Jim shows up. He hands her the typed note that
her grandfather left her.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(THE
TYPED NOTE, I never clued into that one, or was that even how it was described earlier. I only remember that she saw a note.) </i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>S</i>he realizes that she didn't question why it was typed. Jim had
killed her grandfather.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(This
makes me really sad!!! I thought before that it was a blessing that
he left for the weekend so that at least he wouldn't be a victim and
he was all along. So sad.)</i>.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
tells her Mary is dead and that she is one of them now and there are
lots of them. She says she would like to meet them later that night.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER ELEVEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
has the day to prepare. Her plan is to blow the house up with
everyone inside except for herself. She wanted to give herself a
chance to go back to normal even if it is a long shot since it was
Jim's blood that was turning her.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
goes around and gathers big water bottles and buys some shotgun
shells.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“They
craved human flesh but preferred to eat people alive – that made
them ghouls or zombies, in a sense they were from outer space –
that made them aliens. But they liked human blood- <i>she
</i>
liked human blood, for god's sake – and if the myths were true,
they mutated into bat like beings.<br />
“yeah,”
she said to herself as she resumed her task, “they're vampires.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Well
that is a very unique spin on vampires!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
fills the water bottles with gas and puts them all in the basement,
then sets to work on the shotgun shells. By this time she was dying
for some blood but she refused to kill to get it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay
she totally should have ate something. She didn't need to kill to get
it. She has been eating raw meat all before now. Maybe eventually
that would not satisfy her but really she could deal with that
afterwards. I have a bad feeling her hunger and her refusal to
satisfy it is going to bite her in the ass!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWELVE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Lt.
Nguyen was at the warehouse with Officer Williams staring at the dust
free circle on the ground. He had been here before but felt the need
to come back. He had found the blood in the cracks and had them
analyzed. It came back a match for four different people and those
people that were reported missing and were only passing through the
area.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Nguyen
was scared. He could have handled seeing his partner dead and Mary,
but he couldn't handle seeing Angela holding Mary and licking the
blood off her fingers. He came back to the warehouse to put
everything into perspective, to make it seem that it was really
happening and not a nightmare. Before they leave Officer Williams
tells him that the mortician that worked on the bodies of Mary's
victims wants to talk to him urgently. They leave and Lt Nguyen goes
to visit him.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
monsters start to arrive and they give Angela the creeps because none
of them smiled or said anything they just stood around the room or
sat on the floor. She sense weird vibes bouncing around the room but
she can't quite see them nor explain it. All the people in her house
are either cheerleaders or football players.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Not
a big shocker there.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jim
finally arrives with Kevin, to Angela's horror.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(THE
ASS! WTH He must have known she was up to something? OR that she
really wasn't completely like them yet?) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
gets mad and tries to make Kevin go but Jim won't let him. He tells
Angela that they need him there for her. Kevin tries to make a joke
but Jim hit him in the head knocking him out. He turns to Angela who
looks at him in horror and runs but she doesn’t get far as one of
the others knocks her down. She stares up at them all gathered around
her. Jim reaches down and tastes her blood then she blacks out.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Wow
that is seriously creepy. WTH is he doing? Tasting her to see if he
wanted to eat her for a snack or something? Or testing her blood to
see if she is completely changed, or can they really not resist
blood, no matter who's it is. Geez do they resort to cannibalism
sometimes as well? These are some messed up monsters!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Nguyen
meets with the mortician, Kane. Kane, opens a container that stinks a
lot. He tells Nguyen that this was the container that he kept the
blood in from the two teenage victims. He said he usually disposes of
the blood the same day but was called away and only remembered that
day that he hadn't. When he went to do so he noticed it was gone. He
believes that it was stolen, when he got back from the unexpected
call the door to the back had been broken in to.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(JIM!
Or one of the others. It has to be, but I don't get why? Did they
want to save their little buddies or they just wanted to drink it?)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
says that the kids blood was contaminated with something. Kane tips
the container up and they can see green algae like stuff growing in
there. That is what was stinking. He said in all his years of
experience he has seen nothing like this before so there must have
been something in their blood. He also showed him the back of the
container which showed the green stuff was trying to get to another
container filled with blood.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay
this part I don't get, although I guess the green stuff is probably
the reason why they stole the blood so that nobody figured out they
weren't normal. I don't get that to kill a KAtuu you need to cut off
the head or destroy the head. Then why does the blood still try to
get to blood? Isn't it still alive then? If whatever is in the blood
why does it matter that the head is destroyed? I DON'T GET IT!!
Although the “blood” growing towards other blood is pretty
creepy. Say it got to the blood and drank it? Would it continue to
grow and get bigger or what. AHHH to many questions, I am thinking to
much about this!! lol Or is it just Todd's blood that is still alive
since he was shot in the stomach while Patty was shot in the head.)</i></div>

<b>CHAPTER FIVE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Oh
shit she is one of them now.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
next morning Kevin wakes her up. Her dog, Plastic, is staring at the
water from the balcony again.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(
I think the dog must know or sense something is not right with the
lake. Also that is one weird ass name for a dog. I'm not sure if
there ever was an explanation for the name? I can't remember)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
is super crazy starving when she goes downstairs to eat. She also
sees a note from her grandfather that he will be away for a few days.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm
guessing shit is going down soon since he is gone for a few days.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
At
the game there was a player, Fred Keith, from the other team that was
injured in the game. He now is paralyzed from the neck down. Larry
Zurer was the one that hit him. This is crazy since they didn't
seem to think his injuries were that serious at first. Now he is on a
breathing tube and his recovery doesn't look good. The last comment
of the article, that was in the paper, states that the doctor said his neck looked like it
was hit with a sledgehammer!
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Yeah
I would say Larry is one of them now.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
says she wants to go talk to Mary again. She also says she needs to
get something more substantial to eat besides bread and butter.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(She
is totally screwed! For some reason this part almost seems familiar
to me. But I still have no idea what happens. Just Angela talking to
Mary and turning into a monster has tickled a memory. Honestly I
thought I had this book when I was younger but it wasn't with my
books my mom gave me a few years back. Although I KNOW for a fact I
am missing some so I might have been one of them. This copy I found
last weekend at a thrift store for 25 cents! SCORE!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
tells Mary what happened to Fred Keith and Mary was like I knew Larry
was one! Angela asks when she is getting out but Mary is very vague
about it. Angela suggests that she might be safer in jail.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(DUH
Angela I think that is a given.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Mary
glared at her. “The minute I'm out of here they'll be after me.
Look at yourself, Angie, and tell me who's fooling who. Is Jim
suddenly head over heels in love with you? Did he tell you he had to
dump me so that he could have you?"</blockquote>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(holy
shite what is going on!! How does she know that? I mean maybe she can assume but why is she SO sure that that is what he is doing?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“He
chose you because he's worried about what I told you. Admit it, he
asked you, didn't he? Maybe a few times.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Actually
I totally saw that coming. Jim is just using her to see what Mary
knows and as a bonus he has another minion.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
told her they went out for dinner then went back to her house and
kissed. Mary calls her a bitch!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(hellloo
first of all you tried to kill him! Although I totally get why she is
pissed, Angela is not the greatest friend in that respect. Although
maybe monsters have some sort of weird compulsion?)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
muses that Angela is probably one of them now, but then warns her to
stay away from him because she is worried that he will either kill
her or turn her. Mary has no idea what they are. Angela presses Mary
for the location of the abandoned warehouse and she gives her
something more to go on, since she can't remember exactly where it
is. Angela gets a weird headache again and feels like she could eat
a horse. She leaves Mary and tells Lt. Nguyen lies again.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She
briefly wondered if he had been eavesdropping on their conversations,
but decided that would have been against the law.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<i>(LOL your in the police
station.)</i><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Lt.
Nguyen had searched before for the warehouse but found nothing. With
this new bit of information the expand their search farther out from
Balton. The two officers also notice that something is different
about Angela but they can't figure out what. Nguyen decides that it
would be a good idea to follow Angela, Jim and Mary when she gets
out.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER SIX:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
and Kevin find the warehouse and go in to check it out. They find a
corner that is suspicious and crouch down to look. They find dried
blood in the cracks of the floor. Kevin is more inclined to believe
that maybe the trio did kill people but not that they are
supernatural monsters. Angela decides to tell Kevin that she went out
with Jim the night before and Kevin is crushed. She starts to cry and
tells Kevin that she feels wrong.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I'm
hungry. I need another couple of big macs. I don't even care if they
serve me the meat raw. I might even prefer it.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(okay
I am more convinced that I have read this before but I still have no
idea what is going to happen.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Kevin
asks if she is going to see Jim again and she lies and says no. He
tells her to promise him that she wouldn't but she lies again and
says okay. She then says that she wants to do some research on the
area and to research the Natives because they knew the history of the
area.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
feel so bad for Kevin.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER SEVEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
hadn't a clue what was causing the immense hunger.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OMG
seriously? Weird shit is going on Angela and it is happening to you!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
drops Kevin off, gets some food then heads to the library. The
librarian brings her stuff on the Natives and on the meteor that
formed the lake. She reads an article by Alan Spark and takes note of
his name.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
finds some interesting facts about the Manton's who lived in the area
a few hundred years ago before the white man came. They called the
lake Sethia which means Bath of Blood. It was also loosely related to
a word KAtuu. There wasn't much on the KAtuu. They either came out of
the lake or the sky, were either small like insects or big like bats.
They were feared regardless. The Manton avoided the lake and never
drank the water. The librarian tells her to go visit Shining Feather
he knows all the old stories.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
goes to speak to him and his great great granddaughter translates for
her since he is to old and has forgotten how to speak English
apparently. He says that the Manton warned the white settlers not to
drink the water and they didn't listen at first. But they soon
listened and built the wells to drink from. Shining feather was the
one to convince them to build the wells.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Just
how OLD is he??? I assumed that the town was there for a long time!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
gets angry when Angela asks about the KAtuu and tells her it is an
evil word and to never say it. To his annoyance she says it a few
more times. He seems disturbed that the school is built by the water
and tells her again to tell them to not drink the water.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Why
did the Manton call the lake the Bath of Blood?”<br />
Shining
Feather answered. “Because it was where the drinking of blood
always started,” the woman said. </blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Totally
weird. Are they like some sort of messed up vampires?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
asks how to figure out who is one and he says that 'they are always
hungry for blood'. Angela is totally in denial that what she is
craving is blood . Shining Feather reaches forward and grabs her
wrist to feel her pulse. He freaks out and angrily tells her to
leave. She was like 'why?' He says the word KAtuu. She doesn't listen
and he tells her after giving her a necklace with a headless bat
charm on it , to wear it and kill 'the hungry ones'. She says what
about me. He seems sad and says that 'your blood is cold as the lake'
,' you swam to deep'. Which frustrates her because she doesn't
drink the water nor swim in there.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(<i>geez
no wonder why Jim wanted her to swim in it.</i>
<i>Also Shining feather said
that if everyone stops drinking the water then they will be okay? Not
if they are to far gone though. I was going to say if Angela stopped
she would be fine but she actually got some of Jim’s blood in her
mouth so maybe that is why she is hopeless)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER EIGHT: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
goes home and is cooking steak when Jim walks in. She asks if he is
hungry and he says he is starving, but he wants to eat at the oil
wells so he can see the lake.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She
knew why she hadn't gone for her grandfather's shoot gun. First of
all, he didn't have one. Second, there was a part of her that was in
love with the dark side.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay
here I am getting a realllly vague impression that at the end either
Mary is forced to kill Angela or Angela kills all the other monsters
and then herself. It's so frustrating to not know if I did actually
read this one before.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
So this time he doesn't try to
seduce her. Probably because he knew it was pointless since he had
already infected her. He asks if she saw Mary and if so if she told
her anything. Angela said no.
<br />
<br />
<i>(smart girl.) </i>
<br />
<br />
<br />
She
packed the food for the hike before the steak was done because really
it didn't really matter if it was cooked or not.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>(ewww) </i>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Jim comments that the lake is
really round and confirms that it was formed by a meteor ' a hundred
thousand years ago.'
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Sethia.”
she said. His description evoked powerful images. It was almost as if
he had been there to witness the coming of the meteor.</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
says he doesn't know that name and asked what it means. Angela says
that she doesn't know, that it is a word the Manton call it. He
suggests going swimming.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“The
fact was, a potential KAtuu was asking her to go swimming in the Bath
of Blood. Of course, people swim in the lake all summer, and none of
them ate their neighbours.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
was hesitant at first but then gives in to go for a swim. When they
get back to her house he starts kissing her before jumping in the
water. They start making out again before he leads her back to the
house where they lay on the bed. Angela falls asleep and has a weird
ass dream again. I don't even know to describe the 'dream' , it's
just sooo messed up. It is showing her the history of the KAtuu or
something, or what they are like. She feels a detachment for the
world and just has the need to feed. That is all. Fellow human beings
are now just enemies waiting to be consumed. She is no longer human.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
It
seems like humans went to another world and when they came back they
were no longer human but nobody knew that at first. It took awhile
for anyone to realize that the world the people of Earth had
traveled too was not an option to settle on.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(<i>I'm
not even sure how that is possible? Did Earth have space ships before we
had space ships?) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Eventually
the KAtuu were hunted and as their appearance started to change it
was harder for them to hide. They turn into bat like creatures.
Feeding got harder and the sun took its toll so their kind hid in a
dark cave, except they were found. The people of Earth killed all of
them by slicing off their heads.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
wakes up to see Jim on the balcony. She calls to him but he doesn't
say anything so she decides to go get some more food and eats two
steaks pretty much raw. She goes back to her room to find Jim gone.
She looks out to the water but doesn't see him, so she puts her
necklace back on and clutches it while she goes back to sleep.

<b>ABOUT BLURB: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She said she killed them because they were monsters. Mary Carlson
walked into the party with a loaded shotgun. In the blink of an eye
she blew two people away. She wanted to kill more, but was stopped by
her best friend, Angela Warner, and the police.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
next day, when Angela visits Mary at jail she asks why she did it.
Mary responds, “Because they were no longer human.” Angela thinks
she's crazy. At first.</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Until
she probes deeper into Mary's claims and discovers a horror so
unimaginable that she thinks she is going crazy. She even gets to the
point where she wonders if she should have let Mary keep on killing.
While there was still time to stop the thing from spreading. The very
old thing. The hungry thing.</div>

<b>CHAPTER ONE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
saw it as a sign of being accepted in the small town of Point that
she was invited to a party at Jim Kline's house. After all she had
only lived there for three months. She was enjoying beer and chatting
with her fellow classmates when her best friend Mary Blanc came in
carrying a shotgun. She looked around and then shot Todd Green in the
stomach. Everyone stood in shock as Mary started looking around,
pumped her shotgun and then shot Kathy Baker in the head.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(WOW!
Talk about an opening scene! That was CRAAAZZZY!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
“Kathy
was a blonde piece of Cream pie.”
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(okay
LOL I hope this doesn't mean what I think it means! Anyways, it made
me laugh. Moving on...)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary's
focus turns to the stairs as she heads that way. Everyone is still
standing frozen trying to comprehend what the hell is going on. Jim
Kline peeks his head down and when he sees Mary his jaw drops. Mary
raises the shotgun and shots again. Did I mention that Jim is Mary's
<b style="font-style: italic;">boyfriend</b>? The shot
missed as Jim jumped back and took off. Angela tries to stop her as
Mary heads up the stairs, but Mary pushes her off and tells her to
leave her alone. Angela gives chase anyways. Mary rushes down the
hallway to the bedrooms. A few people are scattered along the way and
nobody does anything to stop Mary, even with Angela's insistence that
they do so.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm
sorry I can't believe NOBODY is doing anything! I mean, she just shot
two people and is after a third! I don't expect them to try and take
the gun away from her but seriously, they could scream or run the
hell out of the house, call the police or SOMETHING. Not just stand
there. Hmmm just a thought, does that mean that they are monsters to?
Or at least most of them? Later the monsters do just stand around
staring at stuff. Interesting thought! )</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
pounded on the door at the end, stepped back and used the shotgun to
blow the door knob off. She was just opening the door when Angela
tackled her. Mary yells at her again to leave her alone. Angela
knocks her head against the door and almost blacks out. She sees Jim
at the window, sees Mary cock the gun again and hears the window
shatter. At first she thought it was the gun but then realizes that
it was Jim going through the window to escape Mary. Mary looks out
the window, then turns and runs back through the house.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(ummmm
Jim just jumped out of a second story window and is still running!
Yeah he is totally a monster – which probably makes the other two
monsters as well.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
hears police sirens in the distance and walks back down the stairs
trying not to look at the bodies of two of her classmates and all the
blood. She goes outside to see that almost everyone is hovering
around out here, and some even throwing up.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Well
there goes that theory that a lot more are monsters right now since
most are throwing up. I can't believe that a monster would do that.
It was an interesting thought though.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Two
cop cars arrive at the scene and Angela tells the one that seems to be
in charge what happened. She says that she figures Jim will head
towards the South end of Point Lake because the trees are thicker
there. He tells her to stay put and let them do their jobs. Angela
can't just stand by and wait because she knew that they would
probably have to shoot Mary and she didn't want to see that happened.
She figures she could possibly talk her down. She runs to her car and
hopes that by driving around the lake that she can get to her friend
before the police. We learn that she is living with her Grandfather
here because she couldn't take the fighting and her parent's divorce
anymore.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
arrives and parks and starts to walk into the forest calling out to
Mary. Jim is nearby and tells her to shut it because she is going to
give their location away. Angela says that the police should be here
soon but they soon hear Mary pumping the shotgun and they both stop
when she calls out to them.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
approaches slowly and tells Angela not to get in her way but she
doesn't listen and jumps in front of Jim, who she figures is frozen
in fear, and tries to talk some sense into Mary.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I
have to kill him!” Mary said.<br />
“Why?”
Angela pleaded.<br />
“Because
he's not human,” Mary said.</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Whatever
a monster is or what kind of monster they are.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
warns Angela that if she doesn't move she will shoot her as well. She
didn't want to but if she didn't get out of the way she would have
no choice.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Angela
was surprised that he [Jim] wasn't begging Mary for mercy.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Interesting,
does he not have any emotions at all anymore or what? He is faking
being human badly then!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Just
then the cops show up and tell Mary to drop the weapon. She refuses
at first and he tells her that he will shoot her in the head if she
doesn't. She finally agrees and slowly lowers the shot gun to the
ground but then suddenly dives behind a tree. She pulls out a pistol
from her waist band and manages to shoot Jim in the leg before the
cop shoots the gun out of her hand. She doesn't give up but the cop
is quicker and knocks her out. He then asks Angela and Jim if they
are okay. Angela has a weird feeling that it has only just
begun.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Whatever that is.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWO: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Lieutenant
Nguyen, the officer that saved Jim and Angela's life the night before
calls her early the next day to come down to the station. He asks her if she has any idea why Mary would do this. Angela can't
think of anything but she did note that Mary had been quieter then
normal the last few days and may have been more distant with Jim
lately.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
Nguyen wants Angela to talk to
Mary since she won't talk to anyone else. We learn that Mary's family
has lots of money.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>(Of course they do. Seriously
the last three books I have read by him at least one character has
shit loads of money!) </i>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Besides
being an incredible dancer, Mary could, paint, sing, play the flute
and make – so she said – incredible love. Jim, she said, was the
best.<br />
Three
months ago. The best.<br />
And
last night she had done everything in her power to kill him.</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
wonder if the change was just recently or if it had been gradual for
awhile now?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
is led into the room that Angela is in and Angela asks her what the
hell happened the night before. Mary says that she wouldn't believe
her if she told her. Then acted bored and not interested when Angela
presses her for a reason. It wasn't until Angela reminded Mary that
she said last night that Jim wasn't human. That got a reaction and
Mary seemed to be scared. Mary tells her that she killed Kathy and
Todd because they were no longer like Angela and herself that they
were monsters. Angela convinces her to explain in more detail.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
says that every year before school starts the football team and the
cheerleaders gather at the school to practice. Because she was dating
Jim she started going there sometimes to watch him practice. That was
when she started noticing that some of them were all of a sudden TOO good at what they did. Specifically Todd and Jim. She also noticed
that the head cheerleader did unbelievable things like jump on top of
a human pyramid 10 feet in the air from the ground. Mary says that
it seemed like something had changed about Jim but she couldn't put
her finger on it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
One
day she went to the school and saw in the weight room Kathy lifting
1000 pounds over her head and the two guys pushing the machines to
their max but not sweating. After that she started watching them and
noticed that they often hung out alone together and never smiled
unless someone else was around. She even used to camp out in her car
on Jim’s street and watch him come outside and play.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“You
talk like they were vampires.”<br />
Mary's
eyes grew dark. “They were worse then vampires.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(What
the hell are they!!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
said she followed Jim one night and watched him pick up Todd and
Kathy. They went to a bar and picked up two couples and they all went
to some warehouse. Mary watched from afar and after an hour the trio
emerged alone. They were carrying some garbage bags. After the trio
left she got a flashlight and looked around the warehouse and spotted
blood on the floor but no clothing and no bodies.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“They're
monsters. What do monsters have for dinner?”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
love that freaking line! What do monsters have for dinner? Sooooo
freakin creepy! I'm loving this book and so far I do not remember
anything about it although I am sure that I have read it before?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
clearly does not believe her and says to herself,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Mary's
raving. She can't accept what she and she's invented this fantasy.
There are no monsters.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
really don't blame Angela I mean what Mary is saying is pretty
freaking weird!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Mary
gets frustrated that Angela doesn't believe her. She mentions that a
few days ago she saw Jim talking to Carol McFarland and Larry Zurer,
and that it is possible that they are monsters now as well.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
still doesn't believe her but asks if there is anything else she
wants to add. Mary says isn't it strange that Jim knew he was next
and that he dove out that window and dropped 12 feet to the ground
without getting hurt. Angela doesn't agree because she said she
would do the same thing if someone was coming after her with a gun.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Before
Angela leaves Mary tries to get her to swear she will stay clear of
Jim and then looks sad when she realizes that her friend doesn't
believe how dangerous he is. Angela
leaves and tells Nguyen that Mary wouldn't talk about last night.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
After
she left another officer brings a tape recorder to Nguyen to listen
to. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Sneaky sneaky!) </i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
had already listened in on their conversation but wanted to listen to
it again. He had interviewed Jim earlier and he did not like him. He
was convinced that Jim was hiding something and that he was guilty of
some crime.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Well
that at least is good!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
asks Officer Martin to get Mary's bail hearing postponed because he
did not want her out roaming free and he also asked for a list of all
empty warehouses in the area.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER THREE: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
attended the funeral for Todd and Kathy. As she was leaving Jim
approaches her to talk. She had no fear of him because Mary’s story
was just to crazy to believe.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Jim
was what was known as a totally rad dude.</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(LOLZ!
Sorry the slang from back in the day is hilarious – totally rad
man! :D )</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Angela
has always been attracted to Jim.
</blockquote>
<br /></div>
<i>(oh
</i><b><i>gawd</i></b><i>
here we go, but what did I expect.) </i>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
just wanted to thank her for saving him. She asks him what happened
and he was like didn’t you talk to her on Saturday?
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Sounds
to me that he is fishing for information. Obviously we know he is a
monster but I totally don't trust him and why is it that people
always think the 'monsters/bad guys' are not shady when they are
TOTALLY being creepy!! How did he KNOW she talked to Mary. She hasn't
even talked to anyone. Geez creepy stalker Jim! Well I guess it is
possible that he saw her at the police station but if she was so into
him wouldn't she have noticed him as well? Actually regardless of
how he found out it still is sort of creepy.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
says that she didn't tell her anything. Jim shook his head.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“What
happened is I told her I wanted to break up with her and go out with
other girls. She got real upset – actually it caught me by
surprise. You know how strong Mary always is. So when she told me
that I couldn't leave her, that I belonged to her, I didn't know what
to do. I avoided her at first, but she kept coming to our practices
and wouldn't leave me alone. She called Todd and told him to tell her
if I went out with any other girls. She cornered Kathy at school and
told her if she so much as looked at me that she'd kill her.”</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(BULLSHIT
Jim, total bullshit! I'm not surprised, though, considering he first
fished around to see if Mary spilled the beans or not before he came
up with this LAME excuse. GAWD and Angela FALLS FOR IT! I am
seriously rolling my eyes at the moment. I mean, even if this was
true, how would he expect his girlfriend to take that news. She
wouldn't jump up and down in joy so of course she is going to be
upset and pissed. OMG Jim is an ass, why does Angela like him? Being
a strong women has nothing to do with being upset about the person
you are going out with dumping you. It still sucks.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela asks him why he wanted to break up with Mary in the first place and
he says that a funeral is a shitty place to talk about this.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Well
duh Jim. I think you should like, I don't know, be mourning your
friends instead of trying to hook up. These monsters sure don't know
how to not make people suspicious. Oh wait, what am I saying. Mary
was the only one to notice.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
suggests getting together after the game on Friday. Angela
is surprised that he is playing.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(hello
Jim you got shot in the leg! Humans don't recover that fast from a
wound like that.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
was all like 'I am fine', almost like it was only a scratch or
something. Then Angela thinks this,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
But
Jim wasn't asking her out on a date – not really. He just wanted to
talk. There could be no harm in that.</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(ugh,
REALLY Angela? Really? I mean come on. Also you suck as a friend.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Then
Kevin Christopher comes to visit her. Turns out Angela considers him
to be her next best friend after Mary, and that Kevin has a huge
crush on her and is obsessed with sex.<br />
<br />
<i>(lol)</i><br />
<br />
Angela wishes that she had the same feelings for Kevin but he doesn't
“do it” for her, not like Jim Kline.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Oh
god this is going to end bad I just know it. Ohh maybe Angela is
convinced that whatever Jim is, is cool and gets turned into a
monster as well to be with him forever...ahhh let's hope not! I don't
want this “love” story to turn out that way!!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Kevin
calls her A&W because her initials are the same as his fav root
beer.<br />
<br />
<i>(I agree that stuff
is the shit!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I
almost feel like leaving Point and going back to live with one of my
parents. They only fought with words – they didn't use shotguns.”</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(haha
I love Pikes wit!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
decides to tell Kevin what Mary said if he promises not to tell
anyone. He listens and tells her that maybe it wasn't Mary’s fault.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Interesting
but she still pulled the trigger.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
said that it was only a year ago that the Point high school was built
and near the end of football season a lot of students started feeling
shitty. The strange thing was it seemed to only effect two groups of
students, the football players and cheerleaders. Experts were called
in. They tested everything but couldn't find anything wrong. Theories
were tossed around that the strange long summer they had was the root
cause or the fact that the football team lost two games that season,
which was normal for a new school.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(???
I don't get this. Doesn't someone have to lose sometime?)</i><br />
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They
never found a reason and the issue seemed to resolve itself. So
everyone soon forgot about it. Kevin
said maybe whatever they had is what Mary caught and that is why she
went “crazy” and started shooting people. It also could be why it
made the three targets do strange things? Although Kevin does not
believe that they eat people.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They
go to the library because Angela wants to read articles on what happened
but she really only found what Kevin had just told her. The only new
thing was that the contractors who built the school lost money on the
project because it took them a million times longer to build the
foundation then they thought. Something about the iron content of the
soil being a lot more then the figured so the ground was a lot
harder? And we learn that Point Lake could have been formed by a
meteor.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(oooh
could the monsters be aliens from the meteor crash? Or the school
football field is built on top of something?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The
people who live on Angela's side of the lake get their water from a
well high up on a hill, while the school gets it from the lake.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Well
that seems strange!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b>
<b>CHAPTER FOUR:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
goes to the football game by herself, not mentioning to Kevin that
that is her plan. She meets up with Jim and they go to a restaurant. Jim's family also has money.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Honestly
being told randomly that Mary and Jim's family are stinking rich
really seems like an after thought and to me has no bearing on the
story at all. So I don't really see why it matters if they have money
or not? I don't know that just sort of bugs me.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
tells Angela that he actually told Mary not only that he wanted to
see other girls but that he wanted to see Angela herself.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OMG
I didn't see that one coming! ~note my sarcasm. Wow sorry but Jim is
really freakin creepy)</i>.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
is flattered since she has a huge crush on him anyways.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(~Rolls
eyes)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
feels guilty because Mary is still her friend but she doesn't tell
Jim she isn't interested, on the contrary she tells him he is cute.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Your
a shitty friend! I don't care that Mary tried to kill him, Angela
still considers Mary a friend and is worried about her. So she should
not be trying to hook up with her ex.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They
drive back to her grandfathers house to go for a walk. He hits the
propane tank with his truck but thankfully it didn't explode. It was
a pretty big tank for only one house,Jim points out. Angela said that
there were more houses here that used the same tank but they burnt
down a longtime ago.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Interesting,
although I find it strange that more then one house shares a tank?
What happens if one person hogs all the fuel? I don't know I would
never go for that.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
also states that it was just filled it up.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Also
interesting. I totally see that tank exploding at some point in the
future.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They
get all mushy, and he moves to try and undress her. She tells him to
slow the F down! Then he spontaneously starts to take his clothes off
because he wants them to go for a swim. Angela knows the water is
always freezing so does not go in. He does but then comes back out to
try and drag her in.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Nice
Jim. Not only are you creepy but your a douche that will make her do
what you want against her will.) </i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
never knew that he was this pushy and runs away from him. He follows.
She ducks behind a
bush to hide but then hears him cry out. When she peeks around the
bush she sees him holding his arm .</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Yeah
that wasn't intentional or anything.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They
start back to the house so she can bandage it up for him but when
they get back to the water he insists that he just wash it off in the
lake and bandage his arm with his t-shirt.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Weirdo.)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
says that it hurts a lot but when she leans over at the waters edge
to help him with it he kisses her and then is practically ripping her
clothes off. Strange thing is this time she doesn't care, not until
she feels blood on her stomach and realizes that he is really
freaking bleeding on her.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(GROSS!)
</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He
tried to pass it off as nothing, he also tries to get her to kiss it
and make it better !!!?????
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(WTF
is going on. Why would he think that she would do that!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
was like 'hell no'. She instead ties his t-shirt around his arm. He
tries to make out with her again but since they were both covered in
his blood she was like ' umm I don't think so!' He leaves and she
goes to bed.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Angela
has one messed up dream about blood and an earth like place trying to
absorb her from the soil.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(????
I don't even know what to say and I thought my dreams were strange!)</i>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She
wakes up and wishes that she never has that dream again.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I
have a bad feeling that she has just become whatever the hell Jim is,
or at least starting too. She did get a bit of his blood in her
mouth.)</i><br />

<b>CHAPTER NINE: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Back in the Police
station Fisher questions Alice on how Kirk died. Alice says it must
have been the bends since he was diving down far and surfacing to
quickly. The lifeguard that came onto the boat said he thought that
was very unlikely but Alice didn't think he knew what he was talking
about. The strange thing is that Kirk who has lived beside the Ocean
his whole life was a really good swimmer so for him to drown is sort
of odd. Alice seems appalled almost when Fisher asks her if she
shared her air with him at all. She was all like “why would I do
that?” Alice was also the only one in the water with scuba gear on.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(You know I really don't understand
this part. Her father only wanted her in the water with scuba gear.
Alice said she thought it was because there must be a current in the
area and that was what probably got Jane. Except there was a shit
load of kids in the water looking for her? Wouldn't it be safer for
the ones with gear to be in it in case they got caught in the
freaking current as well? Just saying. Something fishy is going on.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Reading the first bit of this again
maybe it was Alice that drowned Kirk. She was his ex and even though
she said she didn't care that her best friend and ex were dating
she probably did. Perfect opportunity to get back at him. Although
really freaking harsh though. Anyways..gawd maybe she also killed
Jane to since Sharon obviously eventually told her that she was okay?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Omg Alice's father only let her
scuba dive down. Was it the father that killed Jane? Damn he has
motive to! He doesn't want anything to tarnish his angel daughter.
Maybe that was why he was so understanding of Jane before, because he
was going to take her out of the equation. I think he is almost crazy
enough to do that too!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think Fisher believes that Alice
knows something more but when he presses her she just starts crying.
He asked if it was possible for Sharon to have killed Jane, or if
Jane committed suicide. Alice said no to both.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TEN:</b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane finds the power going out strange
considering the phone went dead before the lights went out. She looks
for the fuse box on the deck, but it's not there. The door to the
garage wouldn't open so she decided to go out the front door and
circle around. She opens the door and hesitates for some reason. Then
a gun shot!? (T<i>his just gets stranger and stranger because who the
hell is messing with her. I'm going to guess either Sharon or the
cheerleader at this point. Man to many people have a motive!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane dives back into the house and hits
the ground trying to figure out who the hell is trying to kill her.
Jane goes upstairs and searches the bedroom for a gun. A window in
the room explodes in a shower of glass.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She [Jane] seriously doubted if she fired a
single shot into the air that they would get scared and run away.” </blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Just the visualization of Jane shooting out the window and the person getting scared and running
off makes me laugh. Like 'oh shit! They returned fire! Gotta go!”
Hey it's 1am in the morning when I'm writing this, lol, cut me some
slack.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She decides her only option is to guard
the front door and wait for dawn. Fifteen minutes later she hears
someones footsteps approaching the door and she creeps closer. She
grabs a fire poker on the way by the fireplace and when the person
comes in she realizes there is no way she can pull the trigger so
instead she hits the intruder over the head with the poker.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OH CRAP SHE HIT SHARON?!?!?! What is
going on? Sharon is her best friend! Was she that jealous of Jane and
Kirk that she would take revenge on Jane for Kirk's death?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Hmm not Sharon then</i>.) A Molotov
cocktail comes barreling through the shattered front door window and
now the house is on fire. All escape routes are blocked off save the
front door and balcony door and obviously who ever was shooting was
still out there so it's not like they can march out the front door. (<i>So wait, whoever it is was, was waiting for Sharon to go inside before
they started the fire. That means someone had to have heard Sharon
tell Alice that Jane was okay and was at her parents cabin. Although
maybe it still was Alice. She came to the cops willingly later on,
she might be doing that to make her self look innocent! Woah if that
is the case some freaking friend! And why hurt Sharon? Sharon did
nothing!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane is in a serious shitty situation.
She can't go out the front door because of the unknown crazy shooter
is still out there, the balcony door only leads to a deck with a
really big drop and even if they went over the side and shimmied down
the poles they still could fall on the rocks below. That also would
only work if Sharon was conscious since the blow to the head knocked
her out and her head is bleeding pretty bad.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane has a moment of hesitation where
she almost tries to go over the balcony and leave Sharon to die but
she realizes she can't do that. Their only option is to go upstairs.
She carry’s her up there and was considering dropping Sharon from
the bedroom window when the gunner shoots out another window. She
lugs Sharon into the bathroom and dumps her on top of the scuba
equipment. There is a window here but she can't find anything to
break the glass and the window won't open. (<i>All I can say is HELLO
YOU HAVE A </i><i><b>FREAKING GUN!</b></i><i> Even if she didn't want
to shoot out the glass and let the person outside trying to kill her
know what she was doing she could still use the butt of the gun to
break the glass.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“We're going to die, and all because
Mr. And Mrs. Less keep a gun in their bedroom, but not a scale in
their bathroom.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(~face palm. Seriously Jane?!?!? You
have witness this night at least 2- 3 times that a gun can and will
</i><i><b>break a window if shot at.</b></i><i> So for you to say
this is completely </i><i><u>dumb</u></i><i>! I mean com on!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The fire continues to climb and reaches
the bedroom. They are now totally stuck upstairs with no way out.
Sharon wakes up for a moment before lapsing into unconsciousness
again. Jane is horrified but then realizes that Sharon is better off
not knowing what is about to happen. Jane turns on the air to her
scuba tank and breathes it in while she watches the fire spread
towards her. But then she has an idea. She turns the shower on,
removes Sharon from the tub and gets in herself.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I really hope she isn't thinking
that she can just wait the fire out in a tub full of water? I don't
really think that will work.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER ELEVEN: </b>At the police station:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice is still crying and Fisher is
kicking himself for demanding she tell him where Jane and/or Sharon
are. She eventually says that she has nothing more to say. Fisher
leaves Alice for a moment to search out Officer Rick. While he was
looking for him he sees that Patty is in a room by herself. He takes
this opportunity to talk with her before her parents and lawyer
return.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He asks her who he thinks killed Jane
after convincing her that she hadn't drowned but burnt up in a cabin.
She doesn't hesitate to say Alice's father. (<i>Curious.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Gawd how I hate Alice's father and
if this is true that is so horrible!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I've watches that fat-ass since I
was ten. He's my dentist. He's got deep sexual hang-ups, if you know
what I mean. He's got something against the human body, thinks it's
disgusting. He must look in the mirror too much. He probably heard
what Jane wrote in her diary and wasted her before she could
contaminate his darling daughter.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Fisher is unconvinced at first and
asked Patty how he would know. Patty says that if Jane told anyone
then he probably heard it since he gets gossip from all of his
patients. Fisher realizes that Jane told Sharon the plan IN his
office! Could he have heard it that way? OR Alice for that matter?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Fisher leaves Patty and finds Rick. He
asks if their people found a second body yet and if there was a car
anywhere near the cabin. Negative to either and Fisher finds the car
thing curious. He also asks that he get Dr. Hilt to preform a full
autopsy on Kirk and focus on anything strange in his blood. Rick ask
him if he is on to something and he says maybe.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He returns to Alice to see that her
father is with her being all bitchy. (<i>Gawd I hate her father</i>.
<i>This to me makes it look like he
is guilty of something or he knows something.)</i></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“My point, sir, is that you don't
appear to give a damn about what happened to her.” </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The man's bulging neck turned a deep
shade of red. He poked the air with his finger. “You stop right
there! I always did the best for Jane, tried to show her the right
way to behave. It's not my fault she got involved with the wrong kind
of boys.”</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Fisher let his irritation show. “And
what in heaven's name does her taste in boys have to do with her
death?”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Yes Dr. Palmer what does that have
to do with <b>anything</b>.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Fisher heads home after a long night but has this nagging
feeling that something is not right, so he decides to drive to the
cabin and take a look around. He doesn't see anything significant so
he starts back. He notices a bike shoved into the woods at the bottom
of the hill and a bit further down he sees tire tracks on the side of
the road. When he looks closer he sees that the car was actually
pushed to point down the hill. He spots a piece of burnt flesh on the
ground. (<i>Ewww!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay Jane is alive and it is
Sharon they found dead. Just saying.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He puts two and two together and comes
to the same conclusion. Jane (or someone) switched the dental records.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWELVE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane is currently hiding in Alice's
closet waiting for her to come home. She has already made it to Dr.
Palmer's office and stole some stuff for her feet and bandages since
they are burnt to a crisp. She also had grabbed some chloroform. She
also, I presume, switches the dental records at this point. (S<i>o I
was half right earlier.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She reflects and takes blame for her
share of the results of her actions but not for all of it. She was
determined to make Alice pay. (<i>I guess by now she figured it was
Alice who killed Kirk and who attacked and set the cabin on fire. I
think here she also realized just how stupid her whole revenge scheme was and how it got so out of hand.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Why did I care who knew I was horny,
when everyone is horny.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Just then, she hears the garage door
opening and she gets the chloroform ready. She overhears Dr. Palmer
and Alice talking. It almost seems like Dr. Palmer knew exactly what
happened and what part Alice played in all of it but we can't be to
sure because we can't hear the whole conversation. If he does he sure
thinks that if they pray God will forgive them. (<i>Seriously!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice comes into her bedroom and goes
to grab a nightgown from her closet and Jane pounces. Pressing the
chloroform rag to her face, Alice passes out. She begins to drag her
to the Palmer's unused guest house out back. On the way she has to
take a break and reapply some numbing solution to her feet.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She gets Alice inside and points the
gun at her when she starts to come around. Alice is confused
considering she was sure that Jane had died in the fire. Jane lets
her know that she made one mistake, that she forgot that she had
scuba equipment with her and that the water took a long time to fail.
She bundled herself up in her gear, soaked herself with water and
trapped as much as she could in her suit then ran as fast as she
could to get out of the house.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice denies any involvement and Jane
calls bullshit. She says she figures Alice knew about the plan before
Sharon was supposed to tell her so she used the opportunity to kill
Kirk. Alice still denies it. Jane had a lot of time to think before
Alice came home and knew that Kirk had to be the common denominator
(<i>seriously ugh Jane I figured that out a long time ago</i>)
because both of them had him as a boyfriend. Jane tells Alice that
Kirk told her that he had ruined her and Alice freaked out and
attacked Jane. They wrestled for a minute before Alice whispered that
he did ruin her.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“He gave it to me. He needed to get
rid of it. He didn't care about me. He didn't care about what my
father would say?” </blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OMG Alice is freaking losing it or
already has lost it. I pretty much figure it has to do with her cold
sores.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I don’t care about your gun Jane.
You shouldn't have cared about mine. Everyone knows about us. They've
read your diary. And they've just got to look at me. We would be
better off dead.” pg 141</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><b>(RIGHT ALICE.</b> Like you have
the right to decide that because of what Kirk “gave you and Jane”
that you should kill her because in your opinion she would be better
off dead. I didn't see you coming home to kill yourself Alice! Only
now because Jane is there do you even consider the possibility.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice finally admits that she left
Jane's diary open on the desk for Patty to see. She also admits that
she killed Kirk by letting him breathe “air” from a second tank
she had on her back that was filled with laughing gas. She offered
him some air when he was 40 feet below the surface. He was worried
for Jane so he kept diving deeper and deeper. While Alice is telling
this story she is fooling around with a scuba tank, <i>the</i> scuba tank,
that she had filled with laughing gas. Jane realizes she has opened
the valve and wants to light a match, killing both of them.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I'm not crazy Jane. A crazy person
doesn't know what she is doing. It's just that lately I've been so
upset. I'd see you and Kirk together, holding hands, smiling,
kissing.” She winced. “And then it came back and wouldn't go
away, and I - “ A shudder went through her. “My father says that
if we ask, we are forgiven. Maybe we should ask together, Jane, right
now.”</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(OH MY WORD. You have completely <u>LOST</u>
it Alice!!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“My father told me boys will give you
things. I should have listened to my father.” </blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Turns out what he “gave” her was
cold sores because he had to get rid of them so he could get another
girlfriend. ~blink blink blink OMG what the hell has Alice's father
been teaching her!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane laughs at her telling her it's
just a cold sore and that it's no big deal. Alice is not convinced
and says that only bad boys give it to you which makes Jane laugh
harder because Alice does not understand that it is a virus that you
catch and are not given. The laughing gas is also effecting both of
them at this point.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice is still adamant about lighting
the match and Jane tells her that if she wants to die go ahead but
that she already died twice today and that was enough. But she was too
drugged up to even really move, not that she could get out anyways
since Alice locked the door.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Just the someone bursts through the
door, picks up Jane and takes her out. It is Fisher! He goes back in
for Alice. He sets Alice down and goes back to Jane looks at her feet
and tells her he is going to get her to the hospital. Alice's father
comes out and freaks out and Fisher elbows him in the chest and he
falls into the pool! (<i>WOOT!</i> <i>Take that Dr. Palmer!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(And that is basically the end. Sort
of a quick and abrupt ending. The only burning question I have is why did Alice feel the need to also kill Sharon? Because she might have liked Kirk? It doesn't make sense. Alice could have started the fire before Sharon got there but it seemed like she purposely waited for her to get there. I guess we will never know.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>FINAL THOUGHTS: </b>I am pretty sure this is the first time I have ever read this book because none of it seemed remotely familiar to me. A few years back I was actively trying to find Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine books to complete my collection and I am thinking this is one of them. It definately isn't my favorite by Pike but it was still fun to read and well written.<br />

<b>CHAPTER FIVE: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane goes to work and Dr. Palmer is
nice enough to let her work in the back today. He knows what happened
at school since some student had come in early that day and gave him
the scoop. <i>(He pretty much just doesn't want her to tarnish his reputation.) </i>While she is back there she makes a list of ways to get back at Patty and Kirk.<br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ 1. Kill P. And K.<br />
2. Cripple K.<br />
3. Disfigure P.<br />
4. Infect P. And K. with an incurable disease.<br />
5. Disgrace P. And K.”<i> </i></blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Holy shit Jane remind me never to
cross you!!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ Of course she couldn't kill
anybody. She wasn't crazy.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(All those items on the list, crippling disfiguring, INFECTING WITH A INCURABLE DISEASE, let
alone KILLING someone, doesn't point to crazy I don't know what
would. Seriously Jane what do you consider to be crazy then? I mean I
know what happened to her was horrible but still! Sheesh!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She finally settles on ruining their
reputation and already has a plan on what to do. Only thing is she
needs Sharon to help her. (<i>I see now where Ann got the idea for
her revenge plan in the book 'Fall into Darkness'. I think it is kind
of neat that Johnny indirectly mentions this book in that story</i>.
<i>Also, in my experience, when you have an revenge plan and it
requires someone else to help, things are going to go wrong. Terribly
freaking wrong!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anne comes in and tells Jane her father
wants to talk to her. (<i>Okay I am sorry but Alice's father has </i><i><b>NO</b></i><i>
</i><i><b>BUSINESS</b></i><i> lecturing Jane at all! If I was Jane's
parents I would be pissed! It's like saying he can do a better job at
raising their daughter and knows what is best for her. I would cut
him some slack if I thought he was genuinely worried about Jane but I
know he is just worried about his reputation and his daughter's.
After all, she is an “angel”. We wouldn't want her led the wrong
way by promiscuous Jane now would we?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon meets up with Jane and she lets
her in on her plan and makes her SWEAR that she won't tell anyone let
along Alice.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER SIX: </b>Police Station:<br />
<br />
Fisher totally calls out Alice on Jane's journal telling her he knows
that she read it. She was shocked (<i>rolls eyes – seriously Alice
it doesn't take a genius to figure out you read it! So stop acting
all deer in headlights surprised.</i>). She tells him that she reads
quickly and realized part way down the page what she was reading. She
quickly shut it and put it in the worst place possible she now
realizes and that was on top of Jane's school books. So when Jane
grabbed her books she grabbed the journal as well. (<i>And Sharon
totally read it as well. Just saying.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Maybe she stole part of it from a
book she read – she was always reading books - but I don't think
so. I think she made it all up in her head.”</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Oh Alice what a silly thing to say!
I don't know why that makes me laugh but it does. I don't really know
where else she would get the idea if she didn't make it up herself. I
group movies, TV shows, newspapers in with books. So if she didn't
get it from a book she used her brain. Lol.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane's plan was to get Kirk or Patty to
get mad enough to shove her so she could pretend to fall over board
and drown. Underneath the boat she had hooked her scuba gear so once
she was in the water she could grab that, sink to the bottom, put her
gear on and then swim to shore. Once back on land she was going to go
to Sharon's parents cabin in the hills.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane planned on returning to school on
Monday and playing dumb and like nothing happened. (<i>Sorry Jane you
can pretend all you want you would still be in deep shit. Seriously
why wouldn't you call anyone on the weekend to let them know your
okay? You would know they would be looking for you!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Officer Rick interrupts again and hands
Fisher a envelope saying Dr. Hilt is done with his examination and
that he is sure the body is of Jane. Fisher returns and tells Alice
that it was Jane and she is upset saying she figured it must have
been.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay that is strange. Jane fakes her
death supposedly drowns and they find her body burnt to a crisp in
the hills? Maybe her revenge backfired and someone got revenge on her
for getting revenge on them?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Hmm another thought just occurred to me.
Maybe Jane<u> isn’t</u> dead! Maybe it's Sharon's body and not Jane's!
After all Jane worked in a dentist office and was in the filing room
before they went on the ship? Sharon is still missing Could she have
switched the dental files! Interesting. But where is Jane then?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER SEVEN</b>: </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She was alone, but she knew she was
being watched; she probably always would be.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I feel bad that Jane feels this way. No
ones privacy should be intruded on like this. But it would be
forgotten eventually. Or some new drama would take its place.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“When the big moment came, Sharon
would tell Alice quickly, that there was nothing to worry about. Jane
had no intention of putting Alice through the agony of thinking she
was dead. Let the rest of the class moan and groan.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane also needed Sharon to round up
Kirk and Patty and bring them to her at the front of the boat where
she would start an argument which would get one of them to push her
and she would fall over the side never to resurface.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“After Sharon spoke to him, he
approached slowly,his expression remorseful, at first avoiding Jane's
eyes and then staring straight into them." </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(See this further convinces me that
Kirk was just swept along with the rumour and being a guy he didn't
want to deny it but he also didn't want to hurt Jane. He is not
completely heartless.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Patty comes up and Jane tells them that
the reason why she wanted to talk to them was because they were going
to jail for theft and slander. They are both in disbelief and she
says a lot of bullshit about her lawyer (<i>that she doesn't have</i>)
and that she has all these witnesses to collaborate her story. She
starts an argument with both of them and knows she has to escalate it
fast because Mr. Palmer and Mr. Pan are making a beeline for the
three of them. Jane starts a fight and eventually Patty decks her in
the head which was enough to push her over the side of the boat.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(The only thing I don't understand
about her plan is that if the boat is still moving and I assume at a
good pace, after she falls in how is she going to get to the spot
where she pinned her stuff? I would think she would be disoriented
from falling into the water. It's not like she is going to dive in?
Dunno I guess I need to suspend my disbelief. I guess it's
not impossible especially if she falls off the front and the stuff is
pinned to the back but still it's like a hit or miss thing. Also why
does she think Kirk is the one see needs to get to push her. I would
think it would be easier for her to get Patty to shove her then Kirk.
I mean at this point I know it was Patty that decks her but before
she made a point to think that it would be better if Kirk pushed her.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER EIGHT:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Okay as she is trying to orient
herself under the boat she says that the boat is still moving at a
snails pace so I guess her plan is totally possible.)</i> After what
seems like a year, she finds her gear. She notices that there are a
lot of people in the water looking for her. She unhooks the rest of
her gear and sinks to the bottom to put it on.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ Indeed, she began to experience a
strange euphoria. As far as the world was concerned, she no longer
existed; and the majority of her senses would have agreed with the
world.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(S<i>trangely I know exactly what she
means here. One summer I was in a lake with a friend and we were
swimming to a raft out on the water. Unfortunately I really suck at
swimming and really can't swim for that long. Anyways, of course, I
went under and sunk to the bottom (it probably was only 10 feet down)
but I remember standing at the bottom looking around at the plant
life and sand and the how the sunlight was coming down into the
water. It was so beautiful and quite the experience. Unfortunately
soon after that I realized that holy shit I need to</i><i><b> breathe</b></i><i>! I was just beginning to panic when my friend dived down and
reefed me to the surface. But I will never forget what it felt like
below the surface of the water. It was like I was in a different
world and of course I will never forget that my friend saved me from
probably drowning that day as well.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane then heads away from the boat and
towards the shore. By the time she gets there though her legs are
starting to cramp and she is exhausted but she is happy that she
pulled off the first phase of her plan.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Her celebration would have to wait.
If she was spotted now and a reasonable description was passed on to
the police, she would be in serious trouble.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I'm pretty sure Jane that if you
show up on Monday and pretend that nothing happened you still would
be in deep freaking trouble and questioned by police. After all how
many people saw you fall over and not resurface. You would have
wasted everyone’s time and the police's time for nothing. I doubt
that would go unpunished, especially when the find out they could
have been helping someone that actually needed helping.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She gathers her gear heads to her car
that she parked not that far away. She stows her gear and prays that
her car actually starts. It does and she heads to Sharon's parents
cabin. Unfortunately she has hardly and gas and is only able to make
it part way there. She has to walk the rest of the way and even
though it is highly unlikely someone will come down this way she
doesn't want to take the chance that her rented gear will get
stolen so she has to lug it with her.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
After walking for over an hour she
finally is able to collapse in a chair. The cabin is build off the
side of a cliff (for the view) so the only entrance is through the
front door. The back door just leads to a deck with a really big
drop. Having not made the local news yet she lugs her gear upstairs
where she decides that she can shower and wash it off at the same
time. Except by the time she gets upstairs and drops the gear she
collapses on the bed of exhaustion. When she wakes up it is dark and
she realizes the news is on in a matter of minutes. She rushes
downstairs and turns the TV on.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Our top story tonight: tragedy
strikes a school boating trip. This morning at dawn, aboard the
sailing ship <i>Wild Wind</i>, a
series of arguments and accidents led to the death of two teenagers:
seventeen-year-old Jane Retton and eighteen-year-old Kirk Donner.”</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i><b>(WHAT !?!?!?!?)</b></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Oh wow I wouldn't want to be in
her position.)</i> Poor Kirk and even in Jane's shock she admits that
his death is her fault and she blamed him for something that he
really wasn't at fault for.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Jane is in BIG trouble. BIG BIG trouble.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Oh crap what the shit is going on!
The phone is dead AND the power just went out. Who the hell just
turned the power off. Sharon? Or Alice? Or someone else? Right now I
am guessing maybe it's Alice. Or really maybe it could be both of
them together? At this point it could be anyone!)</i><br />

<b>CHAPTER ONE: </b>Friday Morning:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane is writing in her 'diary' even
though it is just in a regular notebook. The unique thing about this
diary is that it's entries are fantasy and very loosely based on
actual events in her life. She is up early having seen her parents
off camping for the weekend. Saturday she would be joining 60 of her
classmates on a boat, rented and captained by Alice's father, for a
day of adventures.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane was waiting for her friends Sharon
and Alice to come pick her up from school. Jane has her own car but
it is old and junky and doesn't start reliably so she has been
hitching rides with them. So there she was sitting at her desk
rereading her last entry about the first “date” she had with
Kirk. The next entry she had planned was to talk about the first time
they had sex. (<i>Which of course didn't really happen. Seriously
right here Jane bad idea! Don't write down anything you don't want
others to see!</i>).<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She might have been the only girl in
California who lied to her diary more often then she lied to her
mother. She was wise enough to know that by doing so she was moving
perilously close to lying to herself.” </blockquote>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I find that sad that she feels that
her life is so uninteresting that she has to make shit up. At what
point would fiction become reality in her mind?)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So it turns out that Kirk and herself
were both in the ice cream store and she ended up having to fork over
19 cents to help pay for his ice cream. Then he felt obligated to sit
and talk with her. He finally did ask her out but only to come over
to her house to watch a baseball game. (<i>Very
Classy kirk! Use the poor girl for her cable TV!</i>) After
that they were sort of started seeing each other.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(I<i>'m honestly not sure what Kirk is?
By the description of his build I would have assumed he was, and this
is very stereotypical, a dumb jock except she states here that he
finds classes boring and he never was one for athletics. So what
does that make him? A slacker? I don't know?)</i><br />
<i><br /></i></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Her grades weren't outstanding, and
no one – God forbid – would have called her a nerd.”</blockquote>
<br />
<i>(Now Jane that isn't very nice! Nerds
are people too and there is nothing wrong with being a nerd!)</i><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Unfortunately for Jane before she got
down to the nitty gritty of her “fake sexual encounter” she
notices a neighbourhood cat trying to eat her sweet furry bunny
rabbit Easter. She runs down the stairs and out the backdoor to
shoo the cat away, leaving her “diary” open on her desk. (<i>Aww
after she went to all that trouble fishing it out of her hiding spot
in her bottom desk drawer. Tsk tsk Jane. I smell something bad is
about to happen.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(Actually I want to know <u>how</u> the
rabbit got out of his cage in the first place? Does she regularly let
him out to run around the back yard? I don't know to many people that
do that, just saying. Jane needs to get a better cage so poor Easter
won't get eaten!)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She reassures Easter, after scaring
away the cat, and puts him back in his cage. As she enters the house
she hears her friends pull in the driveway. Sharon comes in and
immediately asks if she has food, finds a box of donuts and starts to
eat them. <i>(First of all nice breakfast, second of all I wish I had
that metabolism!!</i>) Alice had introduced Jane to scuba diving and
was bringing her a long sleeved wet suit to use on their boat trip.
Jane also works part time at Alice's fathers dental clinic and
because of this he also gives her all the compressed air she needs to
dive.<i> (That's pretty nice of him actually. He sounds like a hard
ass but I guess even hard asses have some softness to them sometime.
Unless he doesn't pay her a wage? Although I am pretty sure he does.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They talk about the trip the next
morning and what time they have to leave. Sharon says that she asked
Alice if it was alright if Kirk came which upset Jane because she
wanted to ask Alice herself. Alice and Kirk were a couple before Jane
hooked up with him. Sharon just shrugged and said she did her a
favour and it didn't seem like Alice cared one way or another. Sharon
leaves to use Jane's bathroom. Alice comes in soon after.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice eats a donut and then because it
seems like all kids of dentists are anal about flossing and brushing
and because Sharon was not back from the bathroom yet they end up in
Jane's parents bathroom and talk some more about the big trip. Jane also notices that Alice is developing a cold sore but
Alice passes it off as nothing and refuses the offer of some blistex
for it. ( <i>I guess this tidbit is important considering this is the
<u>third</u> time that it has been pointed out? I have a feeling it has
something to do with Kirk.</i>)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Unfortunately for Jane Patty Brane is
attending as well. Patty, the head cheerleader, has made it a mission
to make Jane's life miserable. Jane offended Patty when she worked on
the school paper.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice goes to see what the hell is
taking Sharon so long while Jane brushes her hair. (<i>Again?????</i>)
She is still a bit worried for Easter and has a weird sense of
foreboding about the whole incident but reassures herself that he
will be fine.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Surely Easter was safe in his cage.
A tiger couldn't paw through the wire.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<i><b>(ahhhh seriously <u>HOW</u> did
Easter <u>GET</u> out in the first place!? Apparently tiger's can't
paw through it but rabbits can!)</b></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWO:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They get to school, Alice goes off to
remind people of the early departure time and Sharon grills Jane
about sex with Kirk. Jane tries to tell her that they haven't yet but
Sharon doesn't seem to believe. (<i>Gee I guess someone was reading
something she shouldn't have been. No wonder why it took her so long
to come back from the bathroom.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think Jane gets a tad jealous when
she spots Kirk talking to a girl in a red outfit but the mystery girl
disappears before Jane can see who it is. She leaves Sharon and
approaches Kirk. After a hug she decided not to grill him on who he
was talking to. After reassuring him that she wants him to go the
next day they head off to start their school day.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane goes to homeroom and when Patty
and her posse come in they sit right behind Jane. A prime spot to
harass the shit out of her. Jane had offended probably ever
cheerleader in an article she wrote for the paper a few weeks back.
She even criticized the football team and the coaches skill at
coaching them.
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Trak High put another six points on
the board at the end of the third period on a two-yard quarterback
sneak. Not to worry, Wilcox's indomitable pep squad took a two-minute
hair-and-lipstick break and were smiling pretty when our boys got
their hands on the ball again on the ensuing kickoff.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(<i>haha whoops! No wonder why Patty was
out to get her. Doesn't Jane know that cheerleading is a sport too!
Honestly though I have always been a bit fascinated with cheerleading. I am from Canada and for the most part we do not have
cheerleaders here. So the whole concept is sort of fascinating. They
are all gymnasts and do all those crazy freaking flips, throws and
crazy people on people pyramids! Plus they have their own dance
competitions.)</i> Lets just say that Jane was allowed to still write
for the paper just not on anything to do with sports. The football
players didn't seem to care about the criticism and even sought her
out for football advice. The cheerleaders on the other hand vowed to
get even.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Patty is wearing a red pants suit!
PATTY was the girl KIRK was talking to! (<i>Ohh nooo he can't be
interested in her!)</i> Jane tried her best to not let Patty get to
her, when she notices Alice in the hallway. She leaves her book bag
at the desk and goes out and sees what Alice wants. (<i>SHE LEAVES HER
BOOK BAG ON THE DESK.!? Seriously Jane your worst enemy is sitting <u>behind</u> you and you leave
your book bag there. You are just asking her to mess with your
stuff! I'm also going to venture a guess that Jane' s diary is in her
bag even though at this point she doesn't realize it yet.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice tells her to wait in the hallway
until she is done talking to Patty about the trip and I guess to try
and get her to let off on Jane. (<i>Ugh! Jane Jane Jane! Your stuff is
still in thereeeee!)</i> Just then Sharon comes and asks to borrow
Jane's text book which of course is in her book bag in the homeroom.
So she goes in and gets it while Jane <u>still</u> waits outside.( <i>I
feel bad things are about to happen very soon.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER THREE:</b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The day progresses uneventfully. Jane
doesn't see any of her friends nor Kirk. Shit started to go down
during third period. Classmates started looking at her and
snickering; it got worse as the day went on. During lunch she runs
into a friend Kathy Lingren who refuses to tell her why everyone is
laughing at her. <i>(Some friend!)</i> And then we never see or hear
about Kathy again. She tries to track down Sharon or Alice because
they would freaking tell her except Patty gets to her first.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane is horrified to see that a
photocopy of her latest journal entry is in the hands of Patty. Patty
says she verified it with Kirk who said that they did sleep together
last Saturday. Jane is understandable upset, especially with Kirk. (<i>What did she expect though. Guys who score are studs, girls who
score are sluts, in high school at least. Sad but true.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She goes back to her homeroom to
discover her “diary” resting on a chair just like Patty said it
would be. The worst thing is that she won't be able to prove that it
was Patty that copied her entry. She sits down and burst into tears.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER FOUR: </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Alice and Sharon find her and try to
reassure her that the sooner she finds Kirk and gets him to deny it
the better off she will be.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Jane go now. Kirk has as much to
lose by this whole thing as you do.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(I do <b>NOT</b> agree with that statement
Alice. The only thing Kirk has to lose by deny it is looking like an
ass because he already said it was true. Like I said before guys are
the shit when they have teenaged sex.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Jane realizes it's strange that the
diary ended up at school and suspects Sharon and Alice. She asks both
if they read it since they were both in her room. They both deny
reading it. (T<i>hey both totally read it!</i>) They also both deny
bringing it to school. Alice says maybe Jane accidentally put it in
her book bag since it looks like a normal book. Jane didn't think
that was possible.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She goes off to find Kirk but Mr. Pan
runs into her first. (<i>Now based on Pike's description of Mr. Pan he is
exactly like the guidance counselor in the show Freaks and Geeks, Mr.
Russo. A hippie that is totally cool with anything as long as
teenagers are responsible. I totally couldn't picture Mr. Pan any
other way.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>(As much as it is uncomfortable to
all three girls to be talking to him about sex I really have to give
him props to be at least worried that she or any of them are having
unprotected sex and the fact that he offered her condoms. But TWO
BOXES!! He tried to give Jane TWO boxes of condoms. How much teenage
sex does he thinks she is having! Also he is coming across as more
then a little bit creepy here. There is some sort of line that he is crossing here.)</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Not surprising Kirk had a group of guys
around him when Jane finally escapes from Mr. Pan's office.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“If what Patty said is even remotely
true, then you're quicker than any guy on campus 'cause I didn't feel
a thing.” </blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(<i>hahaha. Ouch!).</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
To give Kirk a bit of credit here I am
not entirely sure that he wanted to look like a god among his
buddies.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I didn't want to lie. I mean, I
thought you wrote it, and I didn't want to make you look like a liar.
That’s what I mean.”</blockquote>
<br />
Jane slaps him and then leaves school
walking home thinking of ways to get even.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>PROLOGUE</b>: It's one in the morning. We
are introduced to Alice and her father who are in an interrogation
room at the police station. Alice came down to tell them what she
knew of the events that had taken place that day. Lieutenant Fisher
asks to speak with her alone and while Dr. Palmer was hesitant he
finally relents and says he will wait outside. Alice moves her hand
to cover what looks like a sore forming on her mouth. (<i><b>ewwww!</b></i>)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
To break the ice Fisher tells her some
random fake story that he made up about how his girlfriend in college
was a sugar freak when she was away from her dentist father. He asks
her if she wants a regular coke, which she agrees. (<i>Aww such a
nice bonding moment.</i>)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
That out of the way he turns to the
pictures of the students. First up is Patty Brane who is known to be
easy. Then there is Kirk Donner who is Jane's boyfriend and is
Alice's Ex. When questioned Alice said, while her hand went back to
her mouth, (<i>curious!</i>) that she dumped him because..... they didn't get along. Sharon Less was the next photo and she is friend to both Alice and Jane.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“She had not spoken of Sharon in the
past tense. “Do you know where she is now?”<br />
“No.”<br />
“You're sure?”<br />
“I thought - “<br />
“What?”<br />
“I don't know. I don't know where she
is.” </blockquote>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
(<i>I find this </i><i><u>very</u></i><i>
curious! Does she now more then she should?</i>)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Officer Rick interrupts and says that
Dr. Hilt is ready to ID the victim. Only the skull was left. Alice asks who the body is and said
that she heard that there was another death on the radio but she
didn't remember which station it was. (<i>How convenient!</i>). Alice
says that Kirk's death was accidental and that Jane probably killed
herself. Fisher asks if it would be Jane's body they ID from the fire
and Alice says yes. She asks if they only found one body up there and
says that she was just wondering when he asks why she thinks there
will be a second one. (<i>okay seriously something is going on here!
Alice seems to know more then she should.</i>)<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
They reach the top and Chad goes over the side to look for the pin hole. He finds it and then comes back up. They sit and watch the sun go down. Chad asks Sharon if he can kiss her. She says yes. He goes to kiss her again but she turns her head all of a sudden because she feels sick to her stomach. She just figures its because of finding Ann's body. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Why Ann took the ring off though was really starting to bug her. Chad and Sharon continue to talk but Chad is acting weird and almost insinuating that the cop might have been suspicious of Chad instead of Sharon. He then says he is going to go gather firewood. Sharon finally puts two and two together and realizes that Ann left the ring to warn her that it was Chad that killed her. Her throat was slit after all. Chad asks her if anything is wrong and she says no that she is only cold. He leaves to make a fire while she is sitting there thinking HOLY SHIT I'm with a killer!!! She realizes that he took her to where he kept the body hidden and then to where he had moved it. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Chad stops and turns back. Sharon looks at him and knows that he knows that she knows. (phew!) He starts toward her and she dives for her backpack for her knife. She doesn't have time to get it out so stands and turns to face him. He stopped coming toward her and she begs him to let her go that she won't tell anyone. He doesn't believe her and she make a split decision. She wasn't about to let him kill her. She dashes towards the edge of the cliff and the rope and jumps over the ledge. She makes it to the tiny ledge in no time flat although hurting her hands in the process. He tells her he has to come down for her. She asks how can he kill her and he says its easier the third time around. He smothered Ann's mom and shot Jerry. Sharon asks why and he says because they didn't like him. He starts to come down and she find a jar of Vaseline and bug spray in her pockets. She frantically spreads the vaseline on the rope as far as she can go then waits with her finger on the trigger of bug spray. He gets closer and she sprays him in the eyes and he loses his grip and slides down to just below her feet but doesn't fall. She starts to kick him in the face.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Stop it!” he cried. “Don't! Your hurting me!” pg 206</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
SERIOUSLY CHAD!! Stop your hurting me? You just admitted to killing three people for NO FREAKING reason and your trying to kill Sharon but hey she should stop because it hurts. This just totally shows how crazy he is. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She ends up poking him in the eye (ouch!) and he loses his grip again. She uses this moment to climb back up and runs for her backpack and her knife. She runs back and starts to hack the rope. She peeks over the edge to find Chad on the ledge. She taunts him and he tells her that he is going to jump. Even though his is a psycho she pleads with him to wait until she gets help. He says that he won't be there when she gets back and that he isn't scared to die. He tells her that Ann knew it was him that killed her brother and that she was wrong about Sharon. Sharon was the best friend she ever had.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Poor crazy Chad. I'm glad that Sharon was at least able to get away from him. Ann probably could have as well if she hadn't been so injured and weak. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>EPILOGUE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Chad jumps and screams the whole way down. His screams bring the police who find Sharon sitting by a fire. The cop, same one as before, smirks and told her he knew she was a murderer. He doesn't believe her story because of the severed rope and the knife had her fingerprints on it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She says her lawyer will get her off and then adds to herself that this time he probably would require more then just money. YIKES!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b> MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Okay this part really freaking BUGS THE HELL out of me. Chad screaming his head off brings the cops but not when Ann jumped? She screamed her head off as well. It actually really sucks that Sharon has to prove again that she isn't a murderer. EWWW and that she probably has to put out if Johnny does get her off. Not sure how she can prove that Chad was responsible but I guess we will never know.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>FINAL THOUGHTS:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
It's really strange how 18ish years between reads would make me realize that while I did remember what happened that I remember some things differently. Like I could have sworn that she was found in the river, the main one that passes the cliff under rocks and that she actually did have that Ann necklace and Sharon did find it. Im also thinking that Sharon finding the Ann necklace was what made her realize that Ann was dead and that she used scuba gear to search for the body. Or something like that. Which is completely strange considering that is not what happens either. You might think that I was getting this story and another mixed up but I don't think so. Was there other story's that had people in scuba gear searching for bodies?<br />
<br />
Sorry if I am to detailed and long winded in this recap review. I think I might try a different format next time. Maybe at my comments in among each Chapter review or something. <br />
<br />
Also just a random factoid about my copy of the book. As I was reading I discovered a very yellow piece of paper. It was one of moms grocery list from back in the day or at least the start of one. (White sugar was or on sale for 88 cents, Peanut butter 99 cents, Pepsi $5.99, Chips, 89 cents. )</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>BONUS: </b>The movie!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I didn't realize they made a movie of this until when I was adding the book to my Goodreads account I saw the movie cover (Jonathon Brandis!!). So I searched it out after I was done reading it. It's actually on Youtube in 10 min pieces. I can't believe I never watched this. (It had Jonathon Brandis in it! I had like a huge crush on him. I never missed an episode of SeaQuest and I loooved the movie Ladybugs. I was sooo sad to find out that he had committed suicide. :( )</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anyways watching the movie now it seemed really corny but I mean how old is the movie now? It also sucked that they changed the story and there were no court scenes at all. Plus the ending was changed. What was with Sharon pushing Paul off a cliff. I'm still not sure and still can't decide if she was daydreaming about that while she was on the plane OR if she was remembering the nice memory of murdering a guy that was in on the scheme to land her in jail.<br />

<b>CHAPTER TEN:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Ann wakes up in a cave with Chad holding
her hand. He even bandages her head up with a towel. He says she has been out
for an hour and he found her ready to fall off the bridge. It's dark
in the cave save a candle that Chad lit. Ann senses that the cave is
a deep vast one and that it must be close to the river since she can
still hear it. Chad says that he figured out what Ann did. Chad is
acting really strange. He asks Ann if she hated Sharon so much why
didn't she just kill her. Ann was like hmm why didn't I just kill her? Good question. But then immediately says that she wouldn't have suffered for very long if she had. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She asks chad to help her
to her getaway car. Chad says that it
won't work. She misunderstands and says that there is no going back
for her. Chad says that he didn't know if he would get to the car
before she left so he emptied the gas can. (OMG how the HELL did he know the car was there?!) She asks if he knew the
plan and he says that he knew even before she did. She said that's not
possible Chad says it was him that gave her the idea. (Say what!?)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He then goes on in a creepy calm voice that Ann and him
were like the same person. They think the same, do things the same.
He said the first time they met the smiled at each other at the same
time. But he soon realized that Ann couldn't read his mind like he
could read hers so he knew he had to keep quiet even though he knew
they were meant to be together and he loved her. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He mentions
Jerry and her that he confided
in Jerry but Jerry laughed at him and told him that he didn't stand a
chance with her. Chad warned him not to say anything because he didn't want to
risk losing her completely but Jerry wouldn't let up. Chad had stuck the gun in Jerry's mouth while he was
sleeping and pulled the trigger. He told her that Jerry wasn't obsessed with Sharon at all.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Ann knows she has to get away. Chad
says for the last year he was pointing her towards this and to bring
her there to the cliff. He gave her the book, taught her to rock
climb, told her about the two guys that fell off a bridge and were
swept away into the lake never to be found. She realizes that since
she now knows he won't let her live. He tells her he has to kill her
and she asks for a kiss. He asks why and she says to say goodbye as
she leans into him she adds because she was going to kill him. She
reaches for the candle and flings the wax in his eyes. The candle
goes out and she reaches for his knife and slashes him across the
chest. She kicks him in the side
instead of stabbing him in the heart because she realizes that no
matter how crazy he is he was her friend at one point and she can't
murder him. She
knows she needs to get back to the others. She was weak and dizzy but
she managed to get to the bridge and over it. She took a bit of time
cutting it down but wouldn't rest until it was done. She smiled
thinking what Chads face would look like when he came to cross the
river to follow her. Feeling safe she backed up against a boulder and
sat dozing figuring someone would find her soon or in the morning. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She hears someone approaching her and
soon finds out it is Chad which seemed impossible since she cut the
rope bridge down. He turns on a flashlight blinding her. She screams
and warns him to stay away. He turns it off and slowly inches towards
her. She backs up but stops when she realizes she is being backed up
against the edge of a cliff to the river. He gets closer and then
shines the light in her eyes again. She swings with her arm but she is
to weak to aim misses and swings around. She tries again but loses
her balance and falls over the edge. Chad manages to catch her leg
and tells her he is going to pull her up. She knows she is toast and
wishes there was some way to warn Sharon. She regrets all the hatred
towards Sharon now and what she tried to do to her.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Why is it that people who are about to get murdered realize that it is kill or be killed but when they have a chance to save themselves they have a change of heart, run away and then find themselves royally screwed. Ann did this, she didn't take the killing blow even after he told her he killed her brother AND her mother and is most definitely going to kill her. She is totally screwed now.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
"I am crazy. So are you.There isn't another girl in the world who would have done what you did tonight. But you did it.I knew you would do it. Your as crazy as I am.” pg 155</blockquote>
oh boy, poor crazy Chad.<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER ELEVEN:</b> (present time)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon and Chad are back
hiking to the cliff that Ann jumped off of. On the way Sharon asks where the rope bridge is. Chad says it fell down awhile ago because it was old. He tells her not to worry that he knows a different way across if she can keep a secret. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
She mentions that she would be
interested in going out with Chad. He doesn't believe her and then
questions why she would want to. She tells him he is a great person.. He leads her to a cave that is pitch black. He tells her to
trust him. He grabs a flashlight and leads her in. She soon realize
that the cave goes under the river. He leads her to the exit and
tells her once they are out of the tunnel cave to rest while he goes
and checks around. She decided to relax by a small pool beside the
river. She reaches over to get a sip of water which is clear as
glass. She soon spits the water out. The pool wasn't that deep and on
the bottom was Ann's decomposing body.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think that this book was the very first Christopher Pike that I read. This section or at least the description of Sharon finding Ann's body was the section that my one friend was telling all our other friends to read. If we did that we would be so hooked on the book. Thanks by the way friend if you ever read this. Considering that passage actually kind of tells you that she is dead. Up to this point you can't really be sure that she won't survive. Anyways, sucks to be Sharon because she probably is going to realize very shortly that Chad is a killer and crazy.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWELVE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The same Lieutenant George Artso that
had arrested her before was the one that came when Chad and Ann called for help. He clearly still thought Sharon was guilty but he couldn't arrest her
this time. He doubted that they just happened across her body
considering he said that him and his fellow officers searched the
river and had to have passed this spot a million times. Chad asked
if they actually knelt down to look in this pool of water and that
the body was weighted down with stones. The officer notices something
on her hand and asks what it is. It was the
ring that Sharon had given Ann. She had
asked Chad what Ann's birthstone was and he said Ruby but he mistakenly thought her birthday was in July like his. Ann's was birthstone was actually pearl. Ann wouldn't let Sharon return it and they
joked about it calling it Chads ring. They never told Chad his
mistake because they didn't want to upset him. She had found it not to far
from where the rope bridge "fell" down. She did notice that the ropes looked like they were cut with a knife which she thought was odd. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The officer thinks Sharon stole it off Ann's body and makes her
give it up. After the police leave Chad wants to hike
back and call it a day but Sharon insists on going to the cliff where
Ann fell. He gives in. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The cop sure is an opinionated bastard isn't he. That type of mentality is sort of scary considering we as the reader know she is innocent, the jury found her innocent but here is a person that is soooo sure she did it. It seems nothing will sway his mind. I guess it doesn't surprise me that he thinks she took the ring off the body though.<br />

<b>CHAPTER SEVEN: In the courtroom.</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The DA calls Fred Banda to the stand.
She asks him a few questions. He didn't know Ann that well, went out
with Sharon a few times and says that the girls were only gone for a
few minutes before they heard Ann shout and then scream as she went
over the edge.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
John says he has no questions for the
witness. The DA smiles like she knows that she has just won the case.
She has no further witness.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Johns turn. He calls Chad back to the
stand. He questions him about why he thinks that Ann had turned cool
towards Sharon. Chad hesitates and John points out that that was the
second time he hesitated. He asks why. Chad finally says that before
Jerry died Ann had a picture beside her bed of Sharon and herself.
After Jerry’s death she threw it away. Chad says that Ann asked him
how Jerry had felt about Sharon and said that he left a suicide note
that said 'he loved her'. That was news to Sharon who was surprised.
He asks again if Ann hated Sharon and blamed her. Chad says that it
was possible. John also reveals that Paul probably got discharged
from the navy because he got into a fight with three fellow navy
people, one being an officer. He then asks about that night.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Chad says that it took less then a
minute to get to the edge of the cliff after they heard Ann scream.
Sharon was kneeling by the edge and calling Ann's name. Paul wanted
to go over the side and wouldn't let Chad go in his place nor let
anyone talk him out of it even though Chad didn't have all his rock
climbing equipment and only had 100 feet of rope when it was 500 feet
to the bottom.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
John also tells the jury that Chad let
him look around Ann's house a week after the accident and that he
found a book about a girl who to get back at her boyfriend made it
look like he killed her. He also mentions that Ann had started to
learn how to rock climb from Chad a month or so before the accident
happened. The DA didn't wish to re-question Chad.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
John then calls Sergeant Rick Patterson
of the police department to the stand. Rick works in the auto theft
department and told the jury that they found a stolen
car near the cliff where Ann went over. He was pretty certain it was
stolen since the ID number on the engine was filed off. They also
found the prints of both Ann and Paul on the vehicle. The court burst
out in chatter at this new development. The DA once again doesn't
want to question the witness.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Fred is called to the stand again. He
shows and asks if Fred has ever seen a rock pin before. Fred says yes
that he saw one the night Ann went over the cliff on the ground at
the bottom. He said that he bent over but left it there. He didn't
tell the Police right away but then thought that maybe it was
important and was going to mention it when they got back to the cliff
but it wasn't there any longer or he could have mistaken where
he saw it. He didn't bother mentioning to them. He asked Paul later
and Paul said that he didn't see it. Sharon was already arrested so
he couldn't ask her. DA doesn't cross question again.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Paul is called back to the stand. Paul
looked very reluctant to get back on the stand and everyone in the
courtroom notices. John practically badgers him asking over and over
what he did when he went over the side of the cliff to look for Ann. He
finally asks him about the money and that maybe he thought it
wouldn't go as far if they split it. Paul says he didn't kill
Ann. He is asked why the Police couldn't find a body and how he killed
Ann. Paul screams that he didn't kill her, that she wasn't where she was
supposed to be. The courtroom burst out in chatter again. Paul says
he wants a lawyer.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Hanovers final remarks told the jury to
focus on who was with Ann when she went over the cliff and not to
focus on the evidence that John brought to light. John has no final
words and tells Sharon not to worry. The jury took 30 mins and came
back with not guilty.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The DA is one cocky biotch isn't she, but maybe I am just biased against her because, well I know Sharon is innocent. I have to say that even though John is sort of skeezy he is pretty brilliant here. Also seriously Hanover the jury should over look the fact that there was a stolen car hidden close by, both ann and Pauls prints were on it and Paul insisted he go over the edge even though it was highly unlikely Ann was caught on a ledge? Plus a million other reasons, not to mention the fact that Paul basically admitted it was a set up! I mean come on! </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
No surprise here when the jury came back with a big fat NOT GUILTY!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER EIGHT:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon is relieved. John says that if
she ever gets into trouble again it will cost her but this time he
would settle for lunch. (ewww). She goes to find her mom but Chad
approaches her and says that Paul wants to talk to them. Paul tells
them that all he did was help Ann and that he didn't kill her. She needed
him to pull the pin and let the rope down. He hesitates and says that
she should have been down by the time he found the pin. But he wasn't
sure if the tension was the weight of her or just the rope. Chad
freaks out and says what if she hit the side of the cliff and was
unconscious. Paul hesitates again and says that when he was looking
for firewood for Sharon he saw blood on the rocks below and washed it
away because he didn't know what else to do. He didn't know if she was
alive or not. Paul was also the one that took the rock pin that Fred
had noticed. He didn't see any other sign of Ann though.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon is
determined to go back there to look around and she asks Chad to go with
her. He says he hates that place but tells her to ask him again later.
It occurs to Sharon that maybe Ann felt Paul begin to cut the rope
and felt betrayed and maybe Paul was now in the place where Ann would
want him just like she did Sharon. After all she never took the
getaway car.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think its safe to say here that Paul is really realizing how stupid it was for him to go along with this plan. Now he is screwed. Hey would he still get the money that Ann left him in her will if he is charged with her murder? I would think not but who knows. Not that he would have much use for it if he was in jail. I'm not even really sure if he would be charged with her murder. They can't prove that he did actually kill her, despite the fact that he is inheriting millions, but I'm sure he would get charged with something. He did help her, she is missing and he wasted a lot of people's time when he didn't come forward right away with information that she faked it and could be alive.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER NINE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Ann realized what Paul was doing and it
felt like he was having trouble with the pin. (thank god for her she is still 50 feet up!) She only had a few
moments before she would be dumped on the rocks. She was still
swinging out over the river and she realized that she needed to
unhook herself from the first rope when she was over the river. Not
an easy task especially with her shattered right arm.She manages to
drop into the water and then manages with difficulty in getting back
on land almost drowning in the process. Paul was successful (finally) in getting
the pin out and she coiled the rope around her neck because she knew
she couldn't leave it there. Then it was a long hike to the rope
bridge. She was still losing blood and in a lot of pain but she did
not want to give up. Her need for revenge was to strong. So off she
went. She makes it to the bridge and is exhausted from lack of sleep and loss of blood. The task of going across the gorge is almost
unfathomable to her but she is stubborn and proceeds to climb to the
start of the bridge. She rests for a moment but then blacks out.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Seriously how is this chick still alive! Geez. All this to pass out on top of a rope bridge. Wouldn't that be ironic if she falls off the bridge into the water and dies that way.<br />

<b>CHAPTER FOUR: In the courtroom</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The DA questions Paul Lear. According
to Paul, the girls went for a walk. They were gone for around 10
minutes when they heard Ann yell 'don't'. When they got to the cliff
edge they saw Sharon crouched down staring over the side of the
cliff. Ann was no where to be seen. He says he doesn't remember
whose idea it was to go for a walk. Ann was not suicidal and that Ann
and Sharon had been friends.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Johns turn to question the witness.
Paul tells the court when John questions him about his past that he dropped out of high school and
joined the Navy. He only served 1.5 years before getting an
honourable discharge because he had asthma. He didn't know why his
asthma didn't show up on his physical when he joined. Afterwards he
did odd jobs before moving to Utah to live with his father. That was
when he met Ann. Chad introduced them. John asks how much money Ann
left him in her will and he said he didn't know. John said it was a
small fortune. He asks if he saw Sharon push Ann off the cliff. He
said no.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:
</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Awesome foreshadowing at the end of
this chapter. John says to Sharon,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“ You five made an interesting
group. I wonder if you know who loved who. Or who loved what.” pg
71</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER FIVE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think reality is hitting Ann right
now. She is sitting staring at the fire going over and over in her
head what she is about to do. It is becoming very real to her now. Ann is a master
manipulator indirectly getting Chad to choose a spot to camp exactly
where Ann needed them to be. They were all sitting around the fire
drinking beers and singing songs. Sharon was playing the guitar while
Fred (who must have had enough to drink to let loose a bit) was singing. Getting
antsy, Ann comments that the fire is so bright it was hard to see the
milky way. As if on cue Sharon suggests that they go for a walk. It
seems Ann is trying to fake her death around the same time her
brother died.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The talk for a few minutes at the cliff
edge and Ann comments it's cold and Sharon suggests going back. Ann
agrees but asks Sharon to leave her the flashlight and she would
follow along in a second. She wanted to be alone for a few minutes.
Sharon agrees reluctantly.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Ann waits a full minute before moving
to the bush to find the rope. While she is attaching it to the
harness she has under her sweater she realizes that the wind might
actually swing her into the wall after she jumps. She decides to take
a running jump to compensate for it. She misjudged how far she needed
to jump and realizes when she stops falling that she has fallen 100
feet away from the edge and is being whipped back towards it quickly.
She hits it hard with her right elbow shattering it and also cracks
her head pretty hard. It drips blood and she suffers a concussion but
doesn't pass out. She is dazed hanging from the bottom of her rope
for a few minutes when she realizes that someone is messing with her
rope. PAUL! She freaks out and rushes to get down only her injuries
are making that difficult. She manages to hook the second rope to her
harness but can't unattached the first rope. She is still swinging
out over the river. Paul is definitely trying to free her pin even
though she knows he must feel the tension on the rope still.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b> </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Wow this is getting nail
biting intense! I mean Ann just jumped off the cliff! What a nut!
Sucks that she almost got reefed in two when she ran out of rope and
that she slammed into the side of the cliff. I know what it feels
like to hit your funny bone, I couldn't imagine the pain of
shattering that bone! I don't think she thought her plan as through
as she thought. She probably should have done a practice run or
something. But then again I guess while she was going over her plan in her mind she forgot that it might be possible that she could injure herself.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Ann only regretted she couldn't push
him off the cliff before she jumped. She still didn't understand
what Sharon saw in the guy.” pg 75</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I'm surprised at this point that she
cares what Sharon thinks about anything, let alone Fred. I mean she is after all trying to frame her
for murder. I think Ann is swinging back and forth between super
hatred for Sharon and super caring for her best friend. (haha see
what I did there? Singing back and forth? Yeah nevermind lol)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Sharon slipped the light into Ann's
hand. The Sharon reached around with both hands and hugged her. “you
are so important to me,” Sharon whispered in her ear.</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Do you need me?”</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Sharon let go. “Yes.”</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“That's good,” Ann Said. Pg 80</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Oh Ann just when you make me sort of
feel all warm and fuzzy about you, you do this. Well maybe warm and
fuzzy is taking it to far. She did make me question again what her
real motivation was and if it really was about Sharon. Then she turns
around and does this. It's like Sharon telling her how much she needs Ann in her life made her want to take that jump even more. This part actually made me pretty sad but maybe it was because I knew that Sharons world was about to do a 180. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
"That night, she had learned in a way
that she would never forget what it was like to fall into darkness." Pg 82</blockquote>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I love this quote. It's so true in more
ways then one.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER SIX:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon hears Ann scream and tries to
run back thinking a mountain lion was attacking her. But because she
has no light she has to take her time. She finds it strange that Ann's scream didn't
just stop but seemed to fade away. She screams Ann's name and
realizes that she must have fell off the edge of the cliff. The three
boys reach Sharon and they are all panicked. Paul asks Sharon what
happened. She says that Ann wanted to be alone and that she heard Ann
scream after she had already started back. Fred asked her if they
fought and she said no that she wasn't even with her when she
screamed out. Paul says he is going over the edge to look. Chad
insists that he should go over to look since he has more experience
Paul says no that Chad is to emotional right now. One last ditch
effort Chad suggests they hike to the bottom. Paul says that will
take to long and that she might have landed on the ledge part way down. Fred is sure
that if she went over the edge then she is dead. Sharon feels that Fred is blaming her
but then she scolds herself saying she is just being paranoid. How
can anyone think that she could have pushed Ann?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Paul is eventually hauled back up and
asks what Ann shouted before she screamed. Fred Says 'Don't'. Both
Paul and Fred are looking at Sharon like the believe she did it. She
is horrified. Chad tells them to stop wasting time that they need to
hike to the bottom to look around. They get to the bottom and no
body. Fred figures the body was swept down the river towards the
lake. Paul uses the flashlight to inspect the rocks at the bottom and
leans over by a rock. Chad asks what he sees and he quickly gets up
and says nothing. He walks back to the others asking what they should
do. Fred wanted them all to go back to the truck and get help. Paul wanted to stay
to look for the body. Chad says he will hike to a campsite close by
and try and call the police from there. Fred will hike back to the
truck and go get help by himself. Sharon says she will stay and at first Paul
doesn't want her to but eventually gives in. Fred starts for the
truck when he bends over. Paul asks him what he sees and he
straightens and says nothing and goes on his way. Paul leads Sharon
to a small cave so she can build a fire and warm up. He leaves for 10
mins to gather some fire wood and comes back. Then heads out to go
look for Ann's body.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Interesting things going on here. Paul
tells Chad that he is emotional and that he shouldn't go over the
edge yet Paul is like super calm? It was his fiance that just went
over the cliff. I'm surprised none of them questioned that more. I
know some people react to things differently and one could argue that
maybe he is in shock (even though we as the reader know he was in on
it so he knows she is safe...well thinks she is safe) but still, it
was your fiance! At least fake some freaking out or something. We
know though he has to be the one to go over because Chad will see the
pin and rope if he doesn't.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Also what did Paul see on the rocks and
what did Fred lean over to inspect? Gawd they are all acting
suspicious at this point. Way to work together to find out what
happened. Although I think that Fred really believed that Sharon did
it. Whatever, he seemed rather boring and dull anyways.<br />

<b>CHAPTER ONE: </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We met Ann who tells us she has such
hatred in her that she hates the hatred. (phew! Tongue twister!) She
doesn't know where it comes from and she didn't ask for it. ( I
don't really know that many people that ask for hatred do you?) She has
always had whatever she wanted since her family is rich. The one
thing she can't get back and money can't buy is her brother Jerry who
shot himself in the head. She has doubts that ruining Sharon would
make her feel better but she can't think of anything else to do. She
thinks she is super smart that she will get away with it. The only
problem is that she needs help and she decides to ask her boyfriend
Paul to help her.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
She meets him to discuss the plan and
tell him that she has been taking skydiving lessons and his brother
Chad has been teaching her to rock climb. He thinks she is insane,
but reluctantly says he will help her. Her plan is to put a rock
climbing pin 50 feet down the side of the cliff and attach a rope
that will be hidden by a bush at the top. She will lead Sharon away
from the others then send her back by herself. When she is half way
back Ann will clip the rope to her harness, strategically hidden
under her sweater, scream the word 'DON'T' as loud and she can, then
jump off the cliff, screaming the whole way down. The end of the rope
is a bungee so it should take most of the impact. Once she stops
bouncing she will attach a second rope and climb the rest of the way
down. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Paul's job is to wait until she is off the first rope, climb
down and remove the pin and rope from the wall. She will run to a car
she will hide, her and Paul will met up sometime after and live
happily ever after. Sharon will be accused of pushing her and spend
the rest of her life in jail. It's also not uncommon for people to be
washed down into the lake and their bodies never found. All Paul has to do is release the pin and rope, oh and <i>LIE</i> when he is called to
the stand. Simple! The plan is perfect! After all it worked in a book
she read...err... well sorta, but Ann chooses to ignore that, after
all she is SMART! ~facepalm.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We find out more about Paul and more
about how Ann and Sharon met. We also find out that Ann was the one
that found her brother dead on his bed with a gunshot wound to the
head. The gun had belonged to Chad who said he had no idea how Jerry
got it from him. Chad blamed himself for what happened. Jerry left a
suicide note that said 'he loved her. 'Fred Banda is mentioned as a
sort of love interest to Sharon who will also be coming along on the
camping trip.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Seriously Paul could you be any
stupider? Hope nothing goes wrong! You know after all Ann is killed,
even though there will be no body, she added you to her will not to
long ago and then you will eventually move away. I mean out of
everyone on the trip you have more motive then anyone else. After all
you would inherit MILLIONS!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I think Ann's reasoning for trying to
pull this off is jaded. She says she is doing it because Sharon
'killed' Jerry but I really think the deep seated issue is her
jealousy of Sharon. She is really really jealous of Sharon. She mentions how good
Sharon has it about half a dozen times throughout the book.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Look at her life. She has everything in order. She has her music. She has her scholarship to Julliard. Everybody likes and respects her. She has friends. But do you think Julliard is going to want a girl who's stood trial for murder? Do you think people everywhere aren't going to wonder, for the rest of her life, if she actually did it? And don't you think Sharon will at least figure out the half of it, that I did this to her on purpose, that I killed myself because I hated her? That will eat at her more than anything precisely because I am her best friend.” Ann forced a chuckle. “ I don't need a conviction. Her life will be in ruins.” pg 32</blockquote>
<br />
Also this has to be the funniest quote
from the book <i>ever</i>. I mean I literally spit my water out when I read
this.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Paul Paused. “Something just occurred to me, Ann.”<br />
"what?"<br />
"I can't believe we're even discussing this.” pg 33</blockquote>
<br />
It just occurred to you that your
really talking about faking a murder and framing someone? They had
like an hour long conversation so far about it before this little gem
of his. Well okay maybe 10 mins max but still. At least he has doubts
about setting Sharon up because he has nothing against her and
doesn't believe she is responsible for Jerry’s death. But he
still is willing to help Ann. Gawd because he is in love with Ann. Such a good
reason to ruin someone else's life.<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“But if someone loved you, she
thought, it was all relative.” pg 35</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Apparently Ann sees it different. If
you really love someone you would do ANYTHING for them. Why doesn't
she just ask Paul to murder Sharon for her!
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER TWO: In the court room</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Johns turn to question Chad. John asks
if Chad was the one that brought up the idea of the camping trip.
When he said yes John points out that he before he said that it was
his idea he 'supposed'. Which lead to John getting Chad to admit that it
could have been Ann's idea in the first place. Chad adds that since they were all
talking about it he couldn't really say exactly for sure whose idea it was but
thought it was initially his.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
John also points out that Chad seemed
to take the blame for Ann's death even though he didn't have anything
to do with it. He also asks about Chads relationship with Jerry. John
seems to be trying to establish that it is possible that Ann did
commit suicide like Jerry did or that both of them could have been
murdered. He eventually asks Chad if he noticed if Ann treated Sharon
any differently after Jerry killed himself. Chad says that he wasn't
sure but that she could have been a bit colder towards Sharon. He
then asks who’s idea was it to go for a walk. Chad says both names
but then when pressed said it was Sharon. John asks what Ann said
before they went for a walk and he said that he couldn't remember.
Somehow John knows that she commented on how bright the milky way
would be and asks Chad if she could have indirectly suggested going
for a walk. Chad said yes that is possible but it depends on how you
look at it. He is then asked if he saw Sharon push Ann off the cliff.
The answer was no.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Hanover then calls Paul Lear to the
stand.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:
</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I really like how we jump back and
forth between the court and the events as they take place.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anyways I don't really have to much to
say here. Pretty straight forward.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>CHAPTER THREE:</b><br />
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon flirts with Chad and lets him
rub insect repellent onto her back. She comments semi jokingly that
they should hook up. Sharon asks Chad if Ann blames her for Jerry’s
death. Chad says that he doesn't think so but who knows with Ann. He
tells Sharon that he is more to blame then her anyways since it was
his gun.<br />
<br />
Sharon then goes and has a conversation with Ann. I think Sharon
is sensing something is wrong with their relationship but doesn't
know exactly what and she is too afraid to come out and ask directly,
nor does she know how to fix it. They have a seemingly normal
conversation. Sharon notices that Ann is wearing the ring that she
had given her on one of her birthdays. A simple ring with a red ruby
on it. Ann says that they should get going and start again towards
their campsite. She says to Sharon that later they should go for a
walk under the stars.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>MY TAKE:
</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“That was a great rub. You're not bad
for a fifth wheel. One day some girl's going to steal you out of the
trunk and ride you till your flat.” pg 60
</blockquote>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
OMG Mr. PIKE!! haha I totally don't
remember shit like this when I read it the first time! Haha maybe I
was just too innocent back then. I know this isn't the only time it is
eluded to sex but this quote really stood out. Sounds like a bad pick
up line. 'Hey baby, I want to steal you from the trunk and ride you
till your flat'. LOL</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
It sucks to be Chad because he really is a fifth wheel on that trip, doesn't matter if they are all friends. Being a fifth wheel no matter what situation can sometimes really suck!</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I also never understood this line,
maybe it was a typo or something but<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“With her acceptance to
Julliard it had become even more imperative to her German teacher,
Mr. Marx, that she constantly progress. No longer was she allowed to
simply sit at the piano and play whatever came to her.” pg 55 </blockquote>
<br />
Why
would her German Teacher care? Actually that wasn't the first mistake
I noticed. Earlier there was a word like 'do' that was missing its
'o'. I always notice shit like that for some reason. But seriously shouldn't it be a Piano teacher or music teacher? I think someone should have caught that in editing! Or am I missing something here?<br />

<b>ABOUT BLURB: </b>They
said she murdered her best friend. The trial is for murder. Ann Rice
is dead. Her best friend, Sharon McKay, stands accused. But there is
no body. And the three witnesses to the crime only heard what
happened, and did not see it. Nevertheless, the prosecution is almost
certain of victory. Ann was alone in the dark with Sharon on top of
the cliff when Ann fell the 500 feet into the torrential river that
claimed her life. There was only one route leading to the cliff, and
all the witnesses can remember hearing the girls arguing before the
fall occurred. Sharon's only defense is that Ann committed suicide.
But everyone who knew Ann, including Sharon, said she was not the
suicidal type. And they were right. Ann was much more then suicidal.
She was obsessed.<br />

<b>COVER OPINION: </b>It's an okay cover. Not really that interesting but I guess it does represent the story fairly well. Although the cliff looks like its about 60 feet instead of 500 and the three at the top are sort of blobs. The font is of course classic Christopher Pike. The only thing that bugs me about the cover really is the 'Ann' necklace. They isn't a Ann necklace in the book. It should have been a ruby ring instead. Oh well. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This sets up the story really
well and introduces us to the main characters.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sharon McKay is accused of pushing her
friend Ann Rice off a cliff and stands trial for murder. We meet her
slime ball lawyer John “Johnny” Richmond. He tells her that the
district attorney Margaret Hanover has three witness that say they
heard Ann yell at Sharon before screaming as she went over the
cliff. Sharon insists that she didn't push Ann and says that she must
have jumped, only thing is that she didn't consider Ann suicidal.
Sharon does tell her lawyer that Ann was having a hard time dealing
with her brother Jerry's suicide a year ago. He was a year younger
then the both of them. Sharon had gone out with him a few times but
wasn't interested in him that way. She thought that he might have
liked her though. We also learn that Sharon is a talented pianist and
has been accepted into Julliard.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
After being in jail a few weeks
awaiting the trail to begin, Sharon comes to the conclusion that Ann
must have really hated her to set her up like this and that Ann knew
what she was doing and that Sharon would more then likely be arrested
for murder. The only thing she couldn't figure out was why.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
In court Chad Lear is the first person
called to the witness box. Chad was a friend to both Sharon and Ann
but Ann knew him longer. Sharon thought that it was possible that
Chad loved Ann but she couldn't say for sure. Chad was Jerry's best
friend and also worked as a caretaker to Ann's property. Ann
inherited millions when her mother died from what appeared to be a
heart attack a few years ago. Ann was also engaged to Chad's older
half brother.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
According to Chad he thinks it was his
idea to go on this trip. He is very familiar with the area having
hiked and rock climbed there since he was a kid. The view up on the
peak was the best place to camp because of the view. He thinks it was Sharon's idea to go for a walk with Ann.
They headed out towards the only path to the cliff. They were only
gone for a few minutes when they heard Ann and Sharon arguing, then
they heard Ann shout 'don't' and then she screamed as she fell over
the cliff. Chad said that he should have went with them since he
knows the area so well. It seems like he blames himself.</div>

<b>MY TAKE:</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Well holy information packed prologue
batman! I thought I was writing a book just recapping that! I think
it sets the plot up fairly good though, I know it sucked me in the first
time I read it and again this time around. I almost wish that I had
really forgotten exactly what happens in the end because it's not as
fun remembering what is going on as you read. Oh well. I am loving
this trip down memory lane.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So like I said information overload. We
know that Sharon is accused of pushing Ann off the cliff. Sharon says
she didn't do it, that Ann was a friend so why would she? Ann was also not suicidal so why would she jump?There is no trace of Ann. Hmmmmm <i>interesting</i>.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
And check out that lawyer of Sharon's.
He sounds pretty hot but pretty much a disgusting example of a
corrupt lawyer (I mean it's rumoured that if someone can't afford a
lawyer but still accepts his services then he expects them to service
him after he wins if you catch my drift.). To bad considering he
boasts that he wins cases all the time even when it sounds like it is
impossible.

~whips out reading glasses again
(figuratively of course since I don't wear glasses) shall we
continue?
